After 6 months of nice warm waters, in Ibiza, I am back home...cold water, murcy, currents...(Straights of Gibraltar).
I had to buy myself a new gun, after destroying:martial my Gabbiano in Ibiza and selling my Pelagos.

I opted for a 90 (Picasso carbonium) , there is current here...
Anyways, I have a Omer 5mm suit, far to cold for these waters here, especially now, because it is more like a 3mm now, put a shorty underneath it, still to cold.:crutch
I changed my stratety, not to get to cold, less espetto´s, more aguatto and looking into the wholes, something I have not been doing a lot.

I can stay in the water a bit longer and...have learned a lot.
After my first session with my new gun, missed everything, I went for a practice session, with a plastic can filled with sand...got a bit better with it.

Well, I did not catch anything really impressive yet the last 4 times, but I was happy with my catches, and all of them in a relative (1 hour and 15 min max) short time and withouth hypothermia :) .
I shot 2 groupers, a bit too small though (sorry, hard to see there sizes in the wholes(no pics)), a scorpion fish, nice big sargos and some bass.
All my sessions where succesfull, last year aroud this time of the year they were not..
So, due to the fact that I had to change my fishing strategy I discovered a new and better way....and now I am waiting for the summer...nice and warm water...and more and bigger fish!!
Greets!!

:) There is not a lot of big fish here, well....compared to more exotic places...the gun is ok, it is small and "user friendly", pretty accurate..if I am :)

Very nice++ "sargo" (diplodus sargus) seem to weight about 2/3 pounds or? It's a very cunning fish. Sargo are not the best tasty fish, but a good ingredient to add in the fishsoup. Sargo in the the Med. Sea are from "sparidae" family. It seems to me that the look is close to the "grunt " family on Pacfic coast and to the "porgies" family on Atlantic coast?

Yep!! It is a diplodus puntazzo, a subspecies, however the meat is ok!!
Locals overhere will pay a considerable amount for a fish like this..and indeed..they must be related to these "grunts".
They are very cunning, I have read that 25 years ago they used to be a lot friendlier, but seem to be smart and by now they recognize spearos...even guns, when I go freediving they are not as shy!
Greets!!
Ps was a bit over 3 pounds..
