Charity Dive...

Hi,

I will try and keep this post brief and to the point; Basically, I am looking to do a couple of charity fund raising events via my business this year. One will probably be an Abseil, and I am looking into doing a Freedive. Although I spearfish I am a relative novice to going deep, as I normally fish near rocks and dive about 5-8m deep.

I know its not realistic for me to do a 50m + dive, and Im not really into that, but I am a robust character, having done snorkling, spearfishing, climbing, paragliding and military PTI etc.

I have never trained to go deep, but I can do 50m (no equipment dynamic apnea) in pool ok.

My questions are:

1. How deep would I need to dive to make a feesible charity dive?

2. Where & who would be the best people to do this through in the UK i.e. S.E.T.T., Outdoor or Sea?

I kinda figured its better to do a weekend course then include the charity dive?

Any feedback please,

LJ

Ha, Ha...

Take it by the amount of feedback, you all think its a cr*p idea? LOL

Re: Charity Dive...

I did the weekend SETT course last June when Tanya Streeter was there and doing the Mencap thing amongst others so a weekend dive course coupled with charity raising is possible........but I guess there is lots more behind it than that. SETT courses are run through Deeper Blue so get in contact with them and see what they say

Hi Ljuk,
I've merged your previous thread into one in the General Freediving section. Normally we don't double post so as to avoid confusion. Good luck with you charity dive though. An idea, but it may not be worth anything - try talking to local journalists to see what could make a charity dive newsworthy in your area. They might be able to give you some help, and of course, you are simultaneously letting them know about the event. :)

Cheers for replies...

The charity side is no problem, as it will be done via my company and the local Chamber of Commerce for our local Air Ambulance (Heli) service.

Its just the dive I need advice on... Sounds like the SETT dive will be the best option?

Should work out out a win-win for all :)

Thanks,

LJ
