Hi Guys
I have recently started freedive training and have started the 2* AIDA course.( Have done the first part of the course but now need to wait till the water warms up a bit before doing the open water part).
I have been swimming regular and have been doing statics in the pool (with a buddy) and dry, my PB in the pool is 4:15 and dry was 4:05.
My question is about a concern that i haver about a chest pain that i get when doing dry statics, after about 3 minutes i get a stabbing pain just behind my bottom ribs on my left side ( feels a bit like stitch but more painful especially if I keep holding). I have not experienced the pain while doing the training in the pool. does anyone else get this type of pains and / or does anyone have any info on what might be causing it and how to solve the problem.

Steve

Hi Tat
Hopefully someone has experienced and beat what your talking about , I have not felt anything like that before. All I can say is if your not having it in the water then you are doing something different on land to provoke the pain, go back to basics and start your routine , stay calm and try to listen to your body , what position are you in at the time , look for tense muscle groups. I know you will figure it out its just how long will it take, hope this helps.

Hi mike

The only real difference is that when I am in the water I am face down floating, and for dry I lay on my back on the bed using a single pillow. Wet or dry I do it at least 3 - 4 hours after the last meal and on the days I am training try to eat the correct food types and drink plenty of water.

I'm no expert, but maybe it is a stitch, that gets magnified by the breath hold?

Hello Tattooz! I don't know whether your problem has been resolved, but I do have some information on it. I also experience some chest/lung pain after intense training. I finally figured out what it was. I had a chest exam and it seems that my past experience (as a child) with bronchitis and asthma increased the bronchovascular markings in my lungs. The doc said this increase may be what's causing the pain. I guess I'm sort of...handicapped :( . Hopefully my body will get used to it! Remember to listen to your body.
