Chicago Free Divers/Classes

So I'm a complete newbie to free diving and I was hoping to find some training on the basics and/or a diving buddy. Unfortunately I live in the midwest (1hr north of Chicago to be exact) and the only large body of water near by is Lake Michigan, so the free diving scene here is quite limited.

Is anyone around the Chicago area (or know somebody in the area) that may be willing to give a crash course in freediving?

Hey Woogie! There are actually a fairly large freediving community in the Chicago area and in Wisconsin. We actually have a class coming in July 27-28 up at Wazee Lake, Black River Falls, WI. We also have our own forum......... but it seems most of us use the Wisconsin Speargun Hunter Page on Facebook. There are several level 3 freedivers in Chicago area and several level 1 and a couple level 2's.

We also have the FREEDIVE-A-PALOOZA which brings in a lot of Freedivers. Last year we had about 25 divers show up throughout the weekend.

Unfortunately, those class dates won't work for me (work); but there seems to be larger Midwest community than I thought. I'm sure there is someone willing to run through the ropes with me in the area.

yes- There are at least 12 people that I personally know that live in the Chicago Area. Post on the Wisconsin Forum and check out the FB page. I will gather together all the Chicago people and get you a list. I go to Kenosha about 1 or 2 times a year. Usually late June then Early July.
