Hi,

I'm considering getting a 75 cm gun for low visibility and kelp hunting. However, there are quite a lot of different guns.
A the moment I'm mainly considering the Seatec Gabbiano Elite. Has anyone got any experience with this gun? Or other guns of this size.
What I'm looking for is a fast tracking gun for trout around 2kg at quite short distances, however, I would prefer if the gun also has the power to take on slightly bigger fish as cod or trout around 5-6kg.

Hmm, low vis', kelp hunting, fast tracking, powerful.
Sounds like a pneumatic might be the way to go?
Short pneumatics are very powerful and ideal for the 'cowboys and indians' style of hunting in kelp or stringweed.

Dave.

I agree with Dave, get an omer airbalete if your budget stretches that far or a asso mamba kitted air gun.
I dont think you can buy a 70 airbalete but the 80 model will sill be shorted than a 70 band gun!

Thanks for the replies.

I've tried a few pneumatic guns, and somehow they just don't feel right for me. I might just be oldfashioned...

The dessault quattro look like a very nice gun. And I've read that their bands are especially good for short guns, is this correct? One problem with it is that I cannot seem to locate a distributor. Do you know any good online european stores where I can have a look the costs?

You dont have to look far to find a good shop - db shop link at top of the page or in my sig but I dont think they sell Dessault.
Have a look anyway as the shop always has specials on offer.

Stick Dessault Spearguns in to Google and see if anything comes up?

I have found a distributor. However, I still don't know if I should get the dessault or the seatec or something completely different.

Anyone got hands-on experience with both guns?

I dont think you will be disappointed with any of the popular 75 band guns available.
You can try the search button for any for individually named guns or trawl through 21 pages here Euro Spearguns

My vote goes to a Seatec Gabbiano 77. Because I simply love this gun.

I'v e tried many of Hugues Dessault's signature fine bits of kit: not the Quatro gun, but plenty of Dessault signature fins, mask, knife, different spearguns, and they were all of brilliant and functional design.

But the Gabbiano, oh my Gabbiano 77...it's a PEAK: sturdy, quiet, accurate, solid, full of metal parts (metal cast cassette, all staninless steel trigger and mech, metal line release, metal pins, metal reel line guide...). It's my gun of election and I'll never look back. My money is on the Seatec.

But did you get a gun already?

Spaghetti, I know how you feel.

After posting my question and reading the answers I figured out that reading and looking at websites wouldn't get me anywhere, they are all good guns. So I trusted my instincts and ordered the Gabbiano 77.
I just got the gun today, unpacked it and went hunting. And what a gun. Beautifully balanced, perfectly accurate and silent. And much more importantly it just feels right for me in the water, like an extension of my arm. I've only used it on one dive but I know I chose the right gun for me. The Dessaults, Omers and many other guns are good guns, no question, and for somebody maybe even better than the gabbiano. But the Gabbiano is my gun.

I was going to suggest a 70 or 75 Rob Allen (with an appropriate choice of single/double rubbers 16/20mm & spear diameters) - or my main-squeeze the superlight Omer XXV 75 but that might be a bit light for your cod. The Gabbiano 77 sounds like the right choice.;)

For my use the Gabbiano is great. I really enjoy the fast and easy tracking.

Unfortunatly I haven't had a lot of time for hunting lately, however, I have shot a couple of nice trouts.
