What's on your list that you sent to Santa? I'm still undecided about a Suunto D3 :hmm

my (rather extravagant) christmas present to myself is laser eye surgery so I can get rid of the rather dodgy contact lens/swimming pool combo I have been risking for the last 6 years..... got the first consultation tomorrow and hopefully having it done in January..

and after that...well I'll be able to use Fluid Goggles for the first time so maybe some of those : )

Does anyone know where I can get a "more foreplay"?

My wife asked for one, but when I asked the guy at the dive shop, he had never heard of it either!

:inlove Omer Alien mask...
Ditto, in Mimetec green (or Cressi Matrix) -- but it ain't going to happen. :(
[However, I am not complaining all of my recent spearo purchases have been subsidized or ear-marked as presents from family members  :inlove :)]

However, Christmas is about giving. In the spirit of giving at Christmas, I will be making a donation to Dorset County Council to help clean-up the "diver" toilets :yack at Chesil Beach, Portland, and to the RNLI. I encourage others to do the same.

Technology has probably moved on a lot but... back in the early 90's a friend looked into this and at that time the eye surgery offered (RK? Used a diamond tipped scalpel I believe) was not approved by the US body concerned (he had an Uncle that worked for the Surgeon General at the time, who checked). A couple of colleagues had it done (the company was willing to pay for it, strangely) and were very pleased with the results. However, there was an issue at high altitudes (which makes me also wonder about high pressure) -- with a US climber going temporarily blind on Everest:( in that infamous series on incidents that killed several climbers including a US & NZ guide (the events controversially covered in Ron Kraukers book).

I mailed Santa Klaus for omer ice blades and a seatec weight backpack (that's reasonable, isn't it?), but then something happened. Yesterday an evil spirit (not a human being for sure) stole my two-month-new t20 mimetic med 75, that I had confidently left on the beach while spearing (just freezing indeed). I have no words: it happened on my hometown favourite beach, the beach of my childhood. I feel sad, deprived and disillusioned. And I need a new 75...Santa, can you hear me?

oh!! i can`t belive that, did you really leave it on the beach while you were in water????

'Tis also good to give, so I'm considering giving my sister a mask/snorkel/fins set for Christmas. She will be happy, and I will have a dive buddy :).
Re the laser surgery - things have improved so much it's unbelievable. If I had gotten the surgery when I originally wanted some years back, it wouldn't have worked because the microkeratone (knife) wasn't precise enough. Now they use a laser to make the corneal flap and it's much better - faster recovery time, less trauma to the eye, lots of great stuff. I agree wholeheartedly Sam :). When is the event?

Murat, yes i did: that's my lifetime beach where i've always felt like home, a place where nothing bad could ever happen to me. There was nobody around but gulls and birds. The thief took away the gun and the pocket money in my trousers. I must take it with philosophy.
Now the choice for another 75 is between a lightweight gun (excalibur, instinct, the new XXV that will be in stores next week) or a midweight like another t20 or blackviper, a heavy one like seatec gabbiano. The same old story: go to stores, hold them all in my hands, choosing...such a torture :p
Any suggestions for a 75 in low viz reef hunting?

Ive asked santa to lose my belly:eek: , but I will probaly have to swim more.:hmm

ho an also a new sit on top... :p erm that didnt sound right... kayak...

Sam,

I had Lasik done over 6 years ago and it has been wonderful! I had pretty bad vision before that (20/600) and now it's 20/20 (actually 20/15 in one eye and 20/25 in the other). It's so nice to be able to just pick up any maks I see and be able to use it- instead of investing a ton of money into a RX mask and be stuck to using just one kind. Contacts always gave me probelms and after 3 days in the ocean I would always need to go to my back-up RX mask.

Once had the surgery done I gathered up all of my Rx masks/RX F.F. masks/contacts/ chemicals for the contacts/ glasses/ sunglasses and cases. It added up to something like $1,800! That almost made it worth it right there. Now I use a Sphera almsot all the time and there's no way I could have gottne my perscription mounted into one of those.

As far as gifts go, I'm in the middle of trying to find the smallest pair of fins I can find along with a jr. sized snorkel, with a pruge in it, for my 2 year old. My present to myself is to get her to start snorkeling in the pool with me this winter so she'll be set to hit the lakes next summer!

I'm so tired of dive buddies bailing out on me I can hardly wait until my kids get going. I can see it already, "If you want to get your allowance this week your going to have to go spearfishing with daddy and carry my stringer for me". ;)

If anyone has a line on a small purge valve snorkel I'd like to hear about it. Her mouth is too small for any of the dozen, or so, snorkels I already own.

Sorry there Jim, but that sounds like more of a D.I.Y. project to me and you probably don't want to outsource it to anyone on here. ;)

Erik,

I feel your pain buddy! :waterwork

I'm sitting here watching it snow outside, again, but at least the temps are above 0(F) for the first time in a couple of days. Most of our lakes are frozen over and the other are halfway covered in ice. I was hoping to find an open spot to go spearing on Sunday, but Ted just emailed me that he can't make it because he and the wife will be freediving in BONAIRE- lucky b@st@rd. :vangry

It seems that winter has come on much earlier this year than last. I was hoping for a late freeeze this year since we had such a hot summer, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Some of our warmer-climed friends may not believe this, but I (and you too I think) enjoy the cooler water and the challenges. The winters seal me out of the lakes, but there's that anticipation thing.... when spring comes, I'm reborn and ecstatic!
Peace,
Erik Y.
