contracted a case of ciguatera several days ago and trying to figure out if this will pass or if I'll have these symptoms forever. Please no!!! Thanks for anyone with experiences with this!!

No expert but yea the simpts will go and you'l get better BUT it stays dorment in your body and you are more likely to get it again buy eating fish with it...you can get in buy eating 10 fish with minor or 1 fish with major it just billeds up.
Also i think the scond time is worse. but i hop im rong.

If anyone eats you they will get it... so.... your safe from cannibals!!!!

Hope you feel better.

You can buy kits to test it and certain fish have it more then others.

Jimys right, but ciguatera varies a lot in severity of symptoms and how long they last. What did you eat? and where from?

Connor

I ate a largish red bass, I think its similar to a dog snapper in the states. I was in the mentawis off Sumatra. Many of the symptoms have abated but my elbows and especially my knees remain very sore/achey. also my sensitivity/pins and needles from touching esp. cold objects is still quite strong.

Sounds like you got a moderate case. I don't know much about that species in that area, but large dogs can be bad news in this part of the world.

Give it some time and it will go away, probably all of it. However, you will be sensitive from here on. Small fish for you forever and be careful what species. In my part of the world, big jacks and big barracuda are particularly bad, large dog and cubera snapper, black grouper and yellowfin grouper are right up there. You never know though. I know of cases of people getting a hit from hog fish, and not real large ones, either.

Good luck with it

Connor
