CMAS has cancelled the World Games 2011 that were planned in August in Colombia. This happens the second time, but in 2009 CMAS at least managed to organize a last minute freediving WC together with AIDA in Aarhus. Will we see the same this time in Lignano Sabbiadoro?

More information at CMAS - World Underwater Federation

Sportalsub.net just announced the dates and locations of the replacement World Championships - several of them for each individual CMAS sport. The freediving WC will take place in Serbia from August 29th to September 4th, hence no common AIDA/CMAS WC in Lignano S. this time like I speculated.

Some detailes appeared finally on the website of the CMAS:

• Serbia with Montenegro, in Belgrade and Budua could be the joint homes of the 2011 Apnoea (Dynamic and Jump blue) World Championships between the 29th August and 4th September.

In other words, only the old disciplines DYN and Jump Blue (the Cube) will be included in this Championship, just as it was planned for Colombia. Some of the national federations were already hoping for at least some of the dozen of new disciplines the CMAS approved recently, but it looks like that the CMAS is not ready yet for such quick changes, and that we'll have to wait a bit more to see CMAS competitions in dynamics without fins, statics, depth disciplines, and in the speed apnoea.

The dates of the DYN and Jump Blue were not given yet, but it is apparent the DYN competition will be in Belgrade, and the Jump Blue part in Budua.

I could actually attend that. I don't know how to actually get a CMAS licence (or even if NZ has a CMAS-affiliated body anymore), but it's a nice thought. I could go for that speed apnea record...

Any idea of how to get in touch with their apnea commission and ask these sorts of questions?

Chris, principally you need to pass through the NZ national CMAS branch. And if they did not buy the licence for the Apnea commission this year, normally they have no right to participate, and they cannot buy it now. At least that's what the president of the Czech CMAS told me two weeks ago, when we negotiated with them the participation of Czech AIDA athletes on the WC. And since they did not know about the changes in advance, and especially about abolishing the AIDA ban, they did not bother about purchasing the licence when it was the time for it.

However, the President of the apnea commission is a wise man, and very open, so I suggest that you contact him directly. I bet that he'd be interested in your participation. I'll send you his email address by PM.

But there is another problem - as far as I know, this year there will be still only the two old CMAS apnea disciplines - classical dynamics, and Jump Blue (the cube). The speed dynamics, and any other of the new disciplines were planned neither for Colombia nor for Serbia. I did not see any plan for Tenerife yet, but I doubt they'll add more disciplines this year.

Thanks Trux. It doesn't sound promising, but I'll email him and hope for the best.

Hi Trux,

Could you send me the email of the Apnea commision's president?

I would like to participate for Tunisia, sinice I'm planning to go to Tenerife, and that would be a nice oportunity. Although I don't know the conditions for CMAS.

Thanks,

Walid

OK, I'll do, but I already wrote it to Chris - Levent UCUZAL, the president of the apnea commission is a rather busy person, and may not reply all email timely. The best approach would be contacting first your national CMAS, and discussing it with them, and only if you do not go anywhwere this way, trying to contact the prez directly.

Thanks Trux!
I wrote to the address I found on CMAS' web page, and haven't obtained any reply yet.
The issue is that I live in South America, very far away from Tunisia, and there's no freediving organized activity or team there.. I hope I can develop this activity in my home country and promote it, especially during these difficult moments.

I think there should be a national CMAS in Tunisia - if I am not mistaken they finally ought to organize the CMAS Games 2009, so I guess the organization is rather important there

Yes, but that's why it has been cancelled, it was a total mess.. I'm trying to contact them, but it's so hard from here..
