i just started doing co2 tables and i was wondering if i was holding for to long or not long enough. this is my co2 table

intro: 180 sec

breath hold 95 sec

initial rest time 120 sec

rest time decreased by 10 sec every set

8 sets

my pb is 2:20 minutes i was reading that you should do 50% of your max but that is really easy, this is harder but i can still do it. maybe its to easy??

if i make it harder lets say hold for 105 sec will that help me push back my contractions??

the main thing i'm doing co2 tables for is to push back my contractions. i get them really bad/hard when i do anything around two min. plus i don't want to embarrass my self when i go to the training day the guys are having in Alberta :blackeye

At the first rest of 120s, decreasing it by 10s only, you won't get much into hypercapnia, so it is not really a CO2 table, but rather a simple series of apneas. If you want to train for hypercapnia, try rather starting with 90s rest, decrease it by 15s each round, and once you get to 15s, add another two or three rounds (same breath-hold time) with 15s recovery. If if you can do it all fine, add 5s to you breath-hold the next time. If you needed to abort one of the last BH, make it shorter, the next time. Also make sure you do not hyperventilate during the rest, when training for hypercapnia - that would deny the sense of the exercise.

There are also other exercises for training hypercapnia an hypoxia - you can find many of them in the Apnea Training Manager interactive program.

I saw that behaviour in the last few weeks when using MSIE7 - it is the Google Ads script that triggers some bug in that browser version. I did not yet have time to investigate it. But you can either upgrade to IE8 (available publicly since a day or two through Windows Update), or Firefox (though IE is better, because it supports better some more advanced features used in the program)

Personally I think the only CO2 table worth doing is the one breath interval:

1. Apnea for 40-180 seconds
2. Exhale, inhale, hold
3. Apnea for 40-180 seconds
4. Exhale, inhale, hold

i.e. 0'40" - 3'00" statics, over and over, separated by only one exhale and one inhale. Using this method I go over 11% CO2 after about 10 consecutive holds of 1'30"-2'00" each. You can also get such high CO2 that you get CO2 narcosis. The only warning is make sure that you do jalandhara bandha once the contractions become severe, otherwise you will get a horrible headache at the end.

Eric,
Is Jalandhara bandha a chin against chest lock? How would this prevent a CO2 headache?

Chin against the chest -- it prevents the BP in your head from going too high. Since the CO2 massively vasodilates your cerebral blood vessels, that, combined with high BP in the head, seems to create the headache. So at least if you can prevent the BP increase....

Works for me at least in practice.

thanks for the info i'm going to try this first thing in the AM. one more thing should i be holding for the max i can every time? and how many loops should i do ??

i'm guessing breath up doesn't matter cuz you want high c02

Breath-up is indeed not good physically in this case unless it makes you more determined (mentally relaxed) to withstand high CO2 levels for longer.

I agree that especially with longer (>5 minutes) p.b's this is the only one giving you plenty worth for your training time. Alhough perhaps the Crazy Table (use the search function at this forum) trains mental handling of high CO2 levels also very well.

Well, I made some tests, and I could confirm it was indeed the GoogleAds script that crashed Explorer, so for the time being I removed it entirely - in fact it does not bring practically any income at all, so until they fix it, I keep it out. Or perhaps I'll rather try finding direct advertisers. If anyone here is interested, please let me know.

thank you efattah for the exhale inhale hold for 40 seconds or longer thing. i am having fun making people wonder why i breathe less than once a minute and i always have those wondrous contractions people stare at through the whole time once they start!
