Hello everyone.

Though we have been having a terrible sandstorm recently, we still decided to go to our favorite favorite offshore spearfishing site this weekend.... The sea was pretty calm but horizontal visibility less than 200m due to all the dust and colloids in the air. Strange enough, water was clear for this time of the year (usually, water here gets pretty murky during summer, with all plankton booms).

So we started to spearfish and there was an abundance of fish to shoot at. After getting bored from shooting fish I decided to swap my speargun for the camera and start shooting fish with the lens rather than the shaft... That's when out of nowhere, a cobia first popped up (luckily, my friend had his loaded gun next to him) and then a beautiful estimated 3.5m juvenile whale sharks came by to investigate the whole situation (now the question: Who came 1st the egg or the chicken: Whale shark or cobia).

I immediately swam in his direction and was ready for the ride. The 1minute ride was unbelievable and the shark just swam by, seemingly unbothered by my presence over his dorsal fin while my friend was lagging behind and hanging by my fin (he was just relaxing on the boat when he saw the scene and just jumped in without even putting on fins!!!). However, at a moment, the shark just decided to dart down in the blue and after a 10m drag, I had to let him go (dived down without even taking a breath-hold!)

Here's the video

getaway do you think he would have stayed around longer if you had not gone for the ride?
not getting on your case.

Hi fcallagy

Well I can't really judge, but I noticed that he got agitated once I grabbed him by the caudal fin, whereas he didn't have any problem at all with me grabbing him by the dorsal fin. Also at one point, he slammed his caudal fin and threw me off balance.... Another thing is that the whole swim was counter current (with a pretty strong current) so it was extremely hard to follow him without grabbing him !!!
