I've just added a competition calendar to the home page of APNEA.cz. It is is on the left side. It includes not only AIDA ranking competitions, but also those non-ranking from other sources than AIDA's calendar, and also competitions of other federations (FFESSM, CMAS, FIPSAS,...). If you know about any that is not listed, please let me know.

And the calendar comes also in several other formats that allow you to subscribe to the updates via RSS (click the orange icon top left), or to put it on your Google start page (click the +Google icon), or to import it into Outlook, or other calendar applications, or even into smart phones (click the calendar icon top right)

Hope it is useful to some of you

Thanks, I added them too. I also added some more French (FFESSM), and Italian (FIPSAS) competitions. Hopefully it will stimulate more interraction between those rather isolated freediving camps. If anyone knows about other federations that I am still missing, I'll be happy to add them too (I bet there is some alternative Spanish federation too, isn't it there?).

Yes, in fact the links were there, but due to a small bug they did not work. It is fixed now - at competitions from the AIDA or Freedive calendar, you will be redirected there. At competitions entered manually, where I have organizer's URL, it will link to that page. And at recent competitions already closed (the gray ones), you'll be redirected to the corresponding ranking page (if results are already available).

A bit offtopic but anyway … Trux, did you consider creating facebook page or group? I'm sure, many users from your site are using it.

Thank you, Jenny. I added it too, together with some other new competitions. The Cayman comp is not yet on AIDA's calendar (or at least I did not find it there). Is it planned, or won't it be ranking?

Thank you for asking. Indeed I am considering some kind of integration with Facebook. I tried avoding Facebook for a long time, but finally will have to create an account. I will post about it here on DB when done (probably in a few days), and it will be on the list of new features on the home page of APNEA.cz too.

I added so called "Web Slices" on the homepage of APNEA.cz, and one of them is also for the Competition Calendar. The other webslices are for freediving news, new forum posts, twitter posts, and new freediving videos.

Web Slices are currently supported only by the Internet Explorer v8 and Mozilla browsers with a WebChunks plugin, but it is a quite interesting and useful feature. You can subscribe to just a small chunk of a web page, and can so access its content quickly without loading the entire page, or visiting the website. Look at a sample screenshot of the Calendar Web Slice opened from the tool bar of IE (image size 50% reduced):

And now I added also the possibility of exporting the calendar, so that you can insert it into your blog or website easily. There are three different options available. Read the instructions on this page:

APNEA.cz - Competition Calendar

And you can see an example of the integration of the calendar on an external website, on the home page of AIDA Czech Republic here:
AIDA CZ - freediving, nádechové potáp?ní

In similar way, also diverse ranking tables can be embedded (global, national, club, personal, records, ...). AIDA Czech displays the Czech national ranking in this way on this page: AIDA CZ - freediving, nádechové potáp?ní

I did not write instructions for that part yet, though, but as soon as I do, I'll post about it here on DB too.

Please post here if you start using the calendar import. It is not mandatory, of course, but I would love to have some feedback, to know whether it is something useful or just another feature of APNEA.cz used by nobody.

I just added a number of FIPSAS, FFESSM, and CMAS competitions on the freediving calendar at APNEA.cz, so if you are planning a competition in 2011, and want to attract also French, Italian, Croatian and other freedivers who often participate on non-AIDA competitions too, you may want to synchronize your event with those already scheduled by the other federations. Especially the CMAS Games 2011 may be an important event for many freedivers, but the other national events will also attract number of competitors who could perhaps otherwise attend your event if you avoid conflict of dates.

You can import the calendar to your agenda in several ways either as iCal item Freediving Competition, Google Calendar import Add to Google, RSS APNEA.cz: Freediving comp News, or simply on the home page of APNEA.cz, or you can even embed the calendar on your website to have it under your eyes easier (see the previous post above for the details).
