Competition Organizing Know-How

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Hmm, knowing your websites, I think it is going to be great.

I was also thinking about this kind of instant web-presentation. On MAN III we used an excell file, which had some good macros, that made the start list, and also made the ranking lists. It worked fine, but it contained only DYF and STA, and we also had DNF. Of course I didn't have time to put it in, so there was a big hack on the site, which was terrible. Next time, I won't do this way.

Instant web - I worked some in php, so I was thinking about that. How did you think? As I remember, the Finnish team has a quite nice solution, which is also php based..
Hmm. May be, we should make a common place for all the (free) programs, web scripts, .. .to share with the other freedivers.

The best way if you use Excel would be to generate an XML with the results. Excel 2003 has supports user defined XML. Then you would need a web page with serverside xml display and a good template for displaying it. All you need then is to upload the XML to the server that could be done also from excel. So its only one mouse click and the results are generated and uploaded. The ql thing is viewers could see the results via RSS...

But I don't have the time to do that now. I have CMS (content management system) on my websites so all I need is to login paste in the results and confirm. Its not as fast as XML but you need one person either way. For now I am generating html code for results in excel alowing me to copy paste it as plain text without unnecessary markup. I think the results should be up 30 sec after they are put in excel.

Jee I'll show you how it works on the competition, just find me somewhere.

If anyone wants to test our system, just pm me. I won't publish the passwords publicly, but I can setup a testing account if you want to play around.

It's essentially 2 applications written in php, the other for dispalying results, and the other for managing them. I'm currently expanding it a bit, but suppots all disciplines, calculates results and rankings automatically etc...
