Just starting out and, in my enthusiasm, became a BSA member.
Now I'm getting emails on competitions in the south. I'm actually quite tempted to just throw myself (and Dive buddy) in and just give it a go. We have all the kit except a decent kayak and I notice there are areas specified for shore dives. Is there any vital things I should know before making a prat of myself (ourselves)?

Just come along buddy,
You will need a marker buoy and spearing kit, that's about it!
No kayaks allowed, so that wont be an issue!

Go along some of the regular guys have bad days. Its interesting to see what comes out of a place you may of dived and not seen much then people come out with fish you never knew were even in the area. Some take it very serious while others are there just for the social side of it.
Go along I am sure you will learn something from it and pick up some tips

Great, that's kind of my attitude.
My Dive buddy reckons he competes in enough sports. Now I need to convince him he can fit one more in.

I'm in the same boat mate, gonna be my first comp also so you won't be the only one scaring the fish away! are you gonna do the one at talland?

Me and my mate are due to dive that weekend but like I said he's not keen to compete as he has enough on his plate with wife and 5 month
old baby.
There don't seem too many competitions throughout the year by the BSA.
I have only just got my head round all this so will have to organize trips for the future.
