Constant weight vs DNF times

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Does X minutes of dnf = X minutes of constant weight?

DNF sure feels more stressful to me than constant weight. I feel like I can hold my breath longer during constant weight.

Well, if you want to compare the dive times of DNF vs CNF, or DYN vs. CWT, or even between DNF and CWT, then you can have a look at the statistics from the competitions I have published at APNEA.cz - Blog

However, you have to be very careful when interpreting the data. I explain it in details in the article accompanying the chart, but I copy & paste at least this paragraph here:
If you look at the chart, you see the average dive times at CNF are indeed 25% longer than at DNF. However, that`s the wrong interpretation of the data. As I wrote, we are comparing apples and oranges here, so we have to be careful - clearly the group at DNF does not have the same level as the group at CNF. Then the results are also influenced by limits given by equalizing problems at depth disciplines. But if you ignore the aspect of the depth, and compare the average distances, you see that they also differ by a very similar margin (19%). From this you can conclude that there is not much difference between DNF and CNF from the point of view of the dive time, and freedivers are limited in both disciplines by about the same duration of the dive (not speaking about the depth, of course).

Very interesting data too, Trux.

Any way, if GreekDiver's questions this for himself, and meaning is the distance instead of time or speed, I think it is not equal especially for the one who is not competition freediver.

For the dynamic, you don't has effect of water pressure. You don't need to equalize your ears. You need to control you movement to go stream line and save energy.

For CWT, you have to handle with equalization. The speed you use suppose to slower than the DNF. However, if you practice more and don't have any problem with your ears and you know the Free Fall technique, you may go faster.

For me, if I want to do CWT for 30 m. I feel much more confident if I can do DNF longer than 60 m., may be 80 m or longer. Because 30 m. CWT is already 60 m. for total.
