hay guys i'v got a tough one for you.

i had to caugh after a 10m dive today, i stayed from 10 - 12 all day, i always check my spit after i cough while freediving and there was a pale yellow/brown coloring
i know about lung squeezes but from what i'v read and heared from other freedivers its always a pinky foam, or bright red spot in case of trachia squeeze.
i did some lung stretching with packing (i lung stretch but dont normaly pack ontop) 3 days ago in the evening, and the next morning i went scuba diving (i always breath out on the way up). but since then when i did a complete breath out to my RV the last bit of my breath was "Raspy".

so do you think its possible that i got a slight squeeze while packing but never spat up any blood and now the old blood is coming up?
or maybe its a chest infection?
i seriously dowt it was from the diving today as the blood looked old and i can do a FRC dive deeper than 12 without having to mouthfill. i was at least 80% full during the dive so i was nowhere near my RV.

Its just weriod. if anyone has any thoughts on the matter or has experienced similar symptoms let me know.

Cheers guys
H

if you can hear a rattling sound at the end of a forced exhalation, a squeeze sounds possible. Have you tried using a pulse oximeter? My understanding is if the reading is below 95 (and it's usually close to 99) it could be a lung squeeze. Also: if you get super tired after doing small efforts.

I wouldn't be able to tell you how you got it though. I came across an article once that explained that athlete swimmers get pulmonary oedemas (lung squeeze) from time to time, but they didn't know the factors involved. So it's possible there are more factors than just pressure. I've seen people spitting blood from reverse packing on land for example.

I get that from time to time (rattling sound, not spitting blood, getting massively tired easily, trouble catching my breath) after shallow dives (20m, definitely not below RV), usually on days where contractions are pretty nasty and I'm spending time at the bottom. It goes away overnight.

Seeing a GP may be a bit more useful than anyone's guess though :)

I used to get that time to time, I think it's some old blood and mucus coming from the sinuses. I didn't have any other symptoms.

Thanks for the replys, i spoke to a friend and he said a ratteling is caused by liquid in the lungs, and since the colour was pale he said i probibly have a chest infection, so i'm taking some antibiotics and the ratteling has already gone and my lungs feel much more healthy.

but another strange thing happened to me today, i was diving for about 40 minutes and then all of a sudden i got a huge pain in the middle of my temple at 2m, and i couldnt dive for the rest of today.
am i wrong or is there not even a air space in your temple?
I'v been freediving care free for years but everything seems to be coming at once this week!
i'm going to do a bunch of sinus rinses tonite and see how it goes tomorro.

Thanks John, ye that is just about the right area. At least i no i'm not about to drop dead!
i hope everything is going well back is SA
