I just added another section to the statistics page of my website, showing the numbers of registered freedivers on individual continents. The total number of APNEA.cz members is 1536 (as of today), so it is already a rather nice sample. The only problem is that countries where English, French, or Czech languages are not common, are under-represented because the users have to pass a relatively strict test, which may not be easy if they do not understand the questions well. For that reason I just added another column that shows also the number of users who attempted to register, but failed (mostly because of the theory test).

So in the first column, there is the total number of users (both registered and failed registrations), in the second column you can see the numbers of successfully registered members. The third column shows then the success rate. The other columns are for the number of media and links in the Freediving Media Base, and for the number of teams/clubs created at APNEA.cz.

The success rates are rather interesting. Rather astonishing for me is the difference between the USA with only 34% successful registrations, and their neighbour, Canada with 65% - almost the double. There are also other remarkable nations, like for example Denmark with 71%. Some nations further below have even better results, but the number of users is already quite low to be reliably representative.

Perhaps even more interesting are the success rates at continents - I admit that quite surprising for me is the high level at African freedivers. On the other hand the quite low rate in South America was to be expected, especially because of the language barrier. Perhaps I should add a Spanish (and Portuguese) localization too. If any volunteer is interested in translating, let me know. But be aware that there is a lot of work, and no budget available for it :)

If the numbers interest you, you can look at them on the website at APNEA.cz - Site Statistics - please note that the page is long to load (around 30s). I attach also two screenshots below, so that you can glance at it quicker here.

Very interesting I never though that greece had such a large number of freedivers perhaps the next place for the pool wc?!?!?!

Greeks are almost cetainly strongly under-represented at APNEA.cz because of the language barrier - I believe the community is proportionally much bigger. Perhpas not so many competitive freedivers, but plenty of spearfishers, and recreational freedivers. And scandalopetra divers, of course too :)

I enhanced the country and continental statistics, so that they contain much more information. And there are not only absolute numbers, and newly also data of ~35,000 competitions results of ~5,000 competitors, but also per capita relative values, which show often quite surprising results.

You can now also sort the chart by any of the columns (simply click the header of the respective column).

Besides others, the data may be of an interest for anyone targeting the freediving market with some products or services - you can better see in which countries freediving is the most developed, and where you should spend your time and effort with localized marketing. And you can also see where freediving is not yet developed, and where some potential might be. International federations like AIDA and CMAS could target those regions, and help developing freediving there too.

The statistics are available here: Freediving Country Statistics
and I just posted a blog entry explaining the chart in closer details: APNEA.cz - Blog

Trux, that is a very impressive piece of data crunching there! that can prove to be useful for many people and companies in the future I am sure. Nice piece of work! It also answers many questions for me, actually. The USA is quite low on the charts in per capita when those columns are sorted. That explains why it is so hard to find/get dive buddys. I will have to start a club or something to create some and improve those numbers at least on a very local basis ;-)

Maybe the divers in the USA are relatively young?
Maybe because of the more spread out freediver population?
Maybe because of the less club orientated settings?
Maybe because of the extensive vaccination and fluoridation of drinking water?

Perhaps all of those! but, what's the drinking water have to do with it? Although, I only drink reverse osmosis or spring water. Ah! proof of theory ;-)

I'm sure a Neurodoc can find out what fluoride does, and keeps doing to neurones.
The communist and fascist regimes used it in their prison camps, so they needed 6x less guards. A neuron toxin that is produced as a waste product in the aluminium production. Does impair brain development. It makes people dumb, passive and docile.

I'm sure people can safeguard themselves against any information by branding it 'a theory'.
A sophist approach to avoiding a rational research. Not my way.

But to return to the Trux data,

Interesting stuff indeed. With percentages ranging from 30 to 60 it looks like a firm test. I must admit I'm tempted to have a try.

Yes, you are right, Kars. I am very aware of exactly that with the fluoride-was only joking about "proof of theory" as this is one of the reasons that I do not drink the fluoridated water. It is amazing how difficult it is to get anyone here to acknowledge this danger! I did not know about the prison camps, however. History is a powerful teacher...

it's a choice not to look into your information, made out of fear of facing reality and ultimately the reality of their own weaknesses.
What they need is Courage.

hence my line:

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars
