I come across spider crabs with both arms(main claws) broken so to speak above elbows and ive just seen a video with a edible crab with the same . any ideas any one ?is it fatal or will the just throw them and grow another?

Possibly been tangled in a fishing net and forceably removed by a fisherman?

Many species of crab can survive removal of the claws, if the breaks are made at a clean joint, otherwise they can bleed to death. Stone crabs in Florida do just fine with no claws, even though you would think they need them to eat. Growth is probably slower, but they manage.

That's logical as I think they can fillter feed or am I thinking of lobsters that throw there claws to escape .I have seen a video of crab fishermen throwing back under sized crabs but snapping of the big claw first which grow back . they have to make a living some way or another.May be when crabs fight they grab the others crabs arms and crush them ?

I have often seen crabs with missing one or more limbs. I assumed they had become trapped or crush by rocks in rough seas.
