Lateral? Comanche has a mechanic line release under the handle, and two line release clips on the sides. These are simple clips: tuck the line under the clip, and when you shoot it will be let go along with the spear.

Lateral is what cressi called it in the manual. Can I use these line release clips and line release under the gun at the same time? how to wrap the mono if I use all? thank you

Hi Dave Spearo (not to be confused with Spearo Dave), I wondered about those other clips when I got to handle a Cressi Comanche in the old Portland Oceaneering dive/spearo store. I guess you could use both together but to what benefit? The conclusion I came to - which might be wrong - is that the clips provide an alternative line point, probably intended to allow fast loading when you are "among the fish" (esp. if in competition). I have heard of people reloading the spear without sorting out the spear-line for a fast load (I've never done this) - perhaps this offers a more tidy/satifactory middle-ground: tidier/safer than loose line but faster than tensioning the line around the normal line release?

I do wish companies (esp. Omer but Cressi too by the sound of it, & perhaps even RA with their reef hooks, etc.) would document/explain more of the clever little innovations they make in their products. I suspect many go unused and unappreciated because of it.

Thank you. I hope cressi make a more detail manual especially for a beginner like me.

are they for clipping the line under if using a reel?

I have the reel setup for this gun but i use the line release under the handle and not the side clips... But i see it is good idea to use that clip in case of reel :D

Interesting, could be. The one I saw didn't have a reel, and I don't use a reel, so that didn't occur to me.

[Pav, Did you have a reel on your Commache Pav? Does the reel get in the way of the line release on the XXV - or do you use the little catch/clamp moulding thingy on the top of the reel (or just tension the reel)?]

I have a Commanche and I also used that tip under the handle. It was not hard to put a reel on it as well.
Dave Spearo, pay attention to that plastic hole on the end of the barrel, the one that lets the shooting line thru it. I have been using that gun for around 6 months and that plastic thing broke down, so I had to put a new head (cressi geronimo) which makes it impossible to use with a stock commanche handle, so I had to change that as well. Just a word of caution =]

I use the mechanic line release under the handle with the reel too.

The two lateral clips are intended as "more options", that become very useful if, eventually, the mechanic line release gets broken. If that happens, you won't have to go mad to find a replacement spare part, dismantle and reassemble the whole damn thing, et ecetar: just use the side clips, and there you go.

Not only you can use the lateral clips as optional line release, but also to keep the spearline off of your wishbone while loading.

Yes, these side tips might be useful for a double-wrap, but I have never actually used them =]

No Mr X, not on the Comanche but I do use one on the XXV. The line uses the automatic clip / line release on its first double back on it self, and then it comes back to the reel. You can tighten the drag on the reel, or leave it looser and take the line under the clip on the side of the gun (which is what I think we are talking about here). This way once shot the line comes of this side clip and the reel is free to let out line. If unclear I'll post a photo sometime.
