Does anyone have any experience useing Cressi's EDY II computer for free diving?

I'm in a place with few opportunities to buy from the outside world, but the Cressi option has come up, and I'm wondering if it is worth it.

I will be useing it for diving too, so will get some use from it regardless, but the only real reason to upgrade my computer would be to intergrate it with a free dive mode.
I am initially put off that I can't change the battery myself... always a pain.

If anyone has one, or has any knowledge, good or bad, I'd love to hear it....

I use one for spearfishing & freediving. It works just fine for both, though the PC analysis software is very poor. The lack of a stopwatch (how hard could that be?!?) is annoying when you're doing statics, but in the water does the job it's designed to do.

Any specific questions?

as above good reliable coputor for both freediving and scuba. dont see any problams from my side of things quite happy.

Just interested in an overall impression really, so both replies are helpful.

Have either of you had to change the battery yet? If so, a what cost, if not, how long have you had/been useing it??

DD it sounds like you use your computer for diving too, how do you find it with decompression times. Annoyingly conservative, loads of bottom time, or a happy medium??

So I s'pose there were some specific questions after all!

I haven't used mine for scuba yet, but I did find this on how to change the battery by yourself.

I wish it had a stopwatch and I don't like how you have to go back and forth between screens to find out the temp, but it's quite a bit smaller than my old Stinger or D-3.

Used by me for ~8 months and by someone else for a few months before that. No signs of flagging battery life, so I can't comment about that. I have a fairly simple usage pattern for it, so I'm only really interested in depth, dive time, surface time and depth alarms. One annoyance is you can't change the alarms once it's wet, but I doubt that's an issue for everyone.

it's nice and light compared to mares nemo excel and d4.. prefer it over both for recreational freediving.. i like the smallest and lightest computer for normal use.. changed battery (energizer for usd1.50) with a small philips screw driver 2 weeks ago and wasn't too tough.. but first tried with a small eye-glass philips screw driver and couldn't get a good grip to remove one of the tighter screws, so changed to one with bigger handle and was easy from there..

So the battery on my watch died yesterday and I watched the video a couple of times to try and change it myself. Once I opened up the back I realized that this video is for the original Edy and not the Edy II that I have.:head Things look a heck of a lot different on the inside, so I just put the back cover on and check it in the fish tank. Everything is sealed tight, but now I need to get the battery changed.

Has anyone else had to change theirs yet? Did you send it back, or just take it to a local jewelry store?

Thanks,

Jon

I just figured it out. Turns out there was a huge sticker covering the part I needed to see.:head Once I peeled it off it looks just like the video.

Nice one Jon!
I've changed my battery now without any issues too.

All happy with my Cressi.

Now just want a freedive buddy
