Hi kevin welcome to DB :)

I bought a pair of gara 3000 and although at first (in the Red Sea last December) I enjoyed using them, when I took them to the pool I found them tiring. Too stiff, my legs felt like lead after a couple of dives.

Maybe if you've got strong legs, and also for spearfishing to comfortable depths but I'd recommend a generally softer fin. Gara 2000 or something similar.

I've got a pair of 3000 LD's and they're mildly soft. I am pretty new so I don't have much to compare them to other than my scuba fins. They provide excellent power. I use them in the pool for training and for pole spearing. I would suggest working something softer before bumping up to stiffer fins. They're pretty tough on my ankles. I do wear them with thin socks.

I'm going amend my post, I'm not sure they are LD's. No where on the fin do they say LD. Could I have just the normal 3000's? Anyone?

Hi Kevin, no, hardish soled booties won't go very well with full footpocket fins, although I have seen them used by spearos in very rocky areas, in that case they must be about 3 sizes bigger and you would have very poor drive with them in the water. You want some 3mm neoprene socks, easily available.

Hi Kevin

Check out this thread. Contains a small and very subjective review of the Gara 3000LD ;)

Very best regards
H!
