Hey guys,

Im buying a pair of freedive fins this week

Im deciding between the Cressi gara 3000 and the Cressi gara professionals

What do you guys think?

In my opinion the gara professional are the uglyest fins i've ever used, hard, bad reactivity, lot of drifting, and lot of money for em. My brother bought em, because the shop seller talked him a lot and he bought em, result? One kilos of dust on em and 100 euros in the basket.

Lie anything its down to preference and some suit one person and not the next. I have the 3000 for a few years. They are great for powering off the bottom but shite for swimming on the surface. i have pretty strong legs but would go for something softer like the prof or lds but depends on you and your diving. I just got imersion carbons delivered this week but haven't dived them yet. the brother has the plastic green version from imersion and is happy with them. They have a wide footpocket that suits him and is very comfy.

Wich fin has a softer blade??

the 3000 hf or the 2000 hf?

i cant order online...so that takes the LD's out of the question...so im lookin at either 3000 hf or 2000 hf?

Which is softer?

thanks in advance

Just got the professional ld's online because I already have cressi fins so was happy sizing them. I got a size up but they are really tight... even without the 3mm socks....

I'm disappointed, but hope the rubber will stretch a bit like my origional cressi fins.

By all accounts the 3000 ld's are wider but maybe the prof ld's aint so wide? I've yet to try them but they look great espcially with the blade on top of the foot not under!

Bobdonny,
I hope you like your new fins, let us know how those Professional LDs work for you. I've read up on everything I can on the various cressi fins. I'm convinced on buying the pro lds.

I must be weird, I LOVE my 3000 Pro's. Wouldn't want a softer fin and the foot pocket seems spot on for my foot.

Frogger I woul dhave said the same until I tried the carbons. The garas are more powerful but use up a lot more energy. So far in what limited testing I have done i think the carbons woul dbe a little slower off the bottom but leave you with a lot more O2 as less is used to power them if that makes sense.

I have owen cressi gara 2000 hf, 3000 hf and am now using cressi gara professionals, the 2000 hf was my favorite fin since i am a shore diver and lack the luxury of a boat ...as far as durability is concerned the 2000 hf is where it is, the 3000 is a little bit softer so if you are just starting out or arent good with the oxygen cunsumption bit i would reccomend those.....lastly the professionals... they work alright, but below 30m you dont seem to get the performance that you get out of them on shallower dives and more importantly they arent durable in the footpocket or in the midsection of the blade, my footpocket has been perforated by the various aquatic life i have encountered and the blade has been snapped by the torque applied on deeper dives....that was a long way up with one fin....dont chance it. 2000 HF...cheaper and better....imho..

see the thread on the pros from osusim below this one called this is it. he has a simialr problem with the pros but dont let it put you off cressi. i have a lot of thier equip with no probs.

i rock the gara 3000 and love them for shore diving, i havent used them on any deep dives, but they do work quite well, unless your always on the surface, then they seem to use much more energy to move around

well took the gara pro ld's out for a swim at the weekend and did some shallow sub 10m dives while fishing.
First thing I noticed was it felt weird, the blade sits on top of the pocket so when kicking out it felt like pushing the blade (as opposed to pulling) and on the backstroke it felt like pulling (as opposed to pushing)... if ya catch my drift!
But after a while you stopped noticing. The fins were super flexible but you felt it finning on the surface, underwater they were perfect for spearing, little effort and lots of glide.
The foot pocket is sooo flexible its really comfy, they are a size bigger than I take and I am trying to loosen them up before I use my 3mm socks as they were very tight initially out of the water.

Can't really comment anymore, except maybe they look like something out of terminator, which I'm sure terrifies the fish!

Overall... I'm very happy, and such a great price!

Thanks for posting your experience with the pro ld's. I was pretty much sold on getting them, unless you said they sucked. Now I'm sure that's what I'm gonna get. Happy Diving!

I have Gara Pro. It is my first pair of long fins so I don't have much to compare to, except my scuba fins, which are Appolo Bio - top of the line split fins. Timing of the pool laps showed that Gara Pros are about 15% faster then Appolo. As many people noticed already - cruising on the surface isn't Garas best suit, which I countered with adding more weight to my ankle weights (about 0.5 extra pound each leg). Diving down and up and manuvering at the bottom while spearfishing is awesome. I don't hunt deeper then 75 feet though... Footpockets not too wide even though I bought 46-47 size as oppose to my normal size 45. I have wide feet and I usually start to feel the preasure from fins after couple hours of spearfishing. But it is not too bad since I was able to hunt in them for 4 hours at one time. Hope it helps...

Hey Bobdonny, are you saying you ordered the same exact size as your last pair of Cressi's and the Professionals are too small? I wear 42-43 on my 2000HF's and I was just going to buy the same size in the Professionals...

Thanks!

My last cressi's were 44-45 I wear snorkelling without socks (the fit is super for me!) so for the gara pro's I ordered 46-47 and some socks. the gara's are too long for me but the width is perfect....without socks....
I physically cannot fit socks on with these fins. I was hoping the rubber would stretch but after a few weeks I know know that it will not. I still need a wide pair of fins for winter diving as I really need socks but the gara's don't go up any more. After reading around I have finally bought a pair of omer stingrays for spearing during winter. I hope to use the gara's during hotter months.

Shame, but bottom line.... gara pro's are good for people with narrow width feet

Sorry to hear they're too narrow for the socks. I really appreciate the sizing info, it's helpful!
