I'm tentatively playing around with the idea of buying some freediving fins. I've snorked for a long time, (using standard length fins...) but I think I'd like to get some more suited to freediving. The ones I'm considering getting are the Cressi-sub 3000 LDs. Does anyone have any views or experience with these?

I'm also not sure about sizing. I'm a 12. What size is this in Cressi terms?

Ideally, I'd like to try them on before I buy them, but the only stockist I've found is Ocean Leisure. There's no mention of the fins on the website but the shop will order them in but they will only do this if you commit to buying them when they arrive.

Is there anywhere else in central/north-east/east/south-east London who stock them? Failing that, is there anywhere that has sells Cressi fins who's likely to carry my size in other Cressi fins so that having got sized up I can then order them online?

Lastly, where's the cheapest place to buy them?
.

Cloudwalker,
As you have snorkelling for a long time, these fins are exactly what you need. Quite softer than the original Gara 3000 they are ideal for surfice swimming as well as freediving. I have tried the both models. They are really good fins, but...
...I have no problems with them when I am barefoot. Unfortunatelly they squeeze from the sides when I have my neoprene socks put on. My feet are not wider than normal and I have no problems with fins like Imersion, Picasso, Sporasub. So keep that in mind.

It depends :)
If you plan to use them with socks then try them with socks on before buying, and forget about using them w/o socks. And vice versa. I tried my Beuchat Mundial Sport fins with 4mm socks- and they seemed ok. But when I tried them in pool- after 20min my feet began to "freeze" and feel tired - that was because fins are *a bit* stiff with this socks and my feet. It is so mild sqeeze, that it is unnoticable when you just wear them- you should actualy swim for about half an hour.
So i bought 3mm socks- and I am happy now rofl

I just got a pair about 3 weeks ago and they are the best fins I've ever used. I'm also a size 12 and I wear the 46-47 with 3mm socks and they fit just fine.

Hi,

I think the Cressi foot pocket is the best in the market, soft, comfortable. I own a pair of Gara 3000 and I have no problems using them on mi size with or without 1.5 mm neoprene socks. Without the socks they feel really good, imperceptible loose. With the socks just a little tight, not enough to make them uncomfortable. So, i'm sure the LDs will behave the same way.

Great foot pockets..

I agree

Cressi footpockets are really great.
I use them with and without socks and they remain comfortable in both the situations.

I tried CS 3000 LD and after an about one hour seemed too soft for me so I have bought 2000 and I'm satisfied. But = I don't swim on surface and if - then it's not so nice.
I use them without sox

I have also searched in vain for Cressi Gara fins in London. There is a shop that sells Cressi scuba and snorkeling fins, so you can try them on. It is Decathlon in Surrey Quays. The Deeperblue shop sells the fins. The price of the fins is very good, but the postage and packing might be a lot.

Can anyone compare the Cressi 3000 or 3000 LD to the Sporasub Desaults? I just bought some Desaults and the foot pockets bother me some when barefoot (don't need socks in the summer here). Another local shop has Cressi 3000s (have to find out if they are LDs or not) and I may try them out and return the one's I don't like.

It is easy to recognize Gara 3000 LD and Gara 3000.
The colors are different.
Gara 3000 LD has a grey blade.
On the contrary, Gara 3000 has a dark grey, nearly black blade.

I think Gara 3000 is much more preferable for apnea.
Gara 3000 LD are too soft.

Very seutable fins and footpockets, I have 2000LD the same as 3000 but only 3000 longer on 2 cm and have more stifness.
my foot size 44-44.5 (11.5) and I buy 44-45 size fins and use with 3mm socks.
I think you can use 44-45 fins with 1.5 mm socks.
I can swim more time with this fins, but to dive deeper better will be 3000 black, not LD.

Hi!
Today I tasted new Gara 3000 black and find this fins much worse then my Gara 2000 LD. Footpocket 3000 not balanced on stiffnes. Footpockets my old 2000 LD have more stiffnes and very comfortable. And the size 44-45 3000 is much then the same 44-45 of 2000 LD.

Hey, k2steeldrums,

I don't know if this is too late, but I initially bought a pair of Dessaults, and I didn't like them at all - they have a very, uuuh, primitive feel - very crudely moulded foot pocket that was way too wide for even my short and wide feet. Also, the blades are really heavy, and don't have rails, so the water sort of slides off the sides while you're kicking, so they tend to twist a lot. I tried a friend's Cressis and loved them immediately. The foot pocket is a much better shape, it's softer (but still stiff on the bottom where it counts) and the blades are just right. I have the stiff ones, and they feel just right for dynamics and CW.

HTH,

Niall

Thanks for the replies - I ended up getting some thin neoprene socks and the Dessaults feel great. I tried on the Cressis and they were just a bit tight feeling on my wide (duck like) feet. I only tried the Cressis on in the store - they wouldn't take them back if I didnt like them. The Dessaults feel great to me - all I've ever worn is shorter Scuba fins - so the Dessaults are a big improvement for me.
