G'day Guys,

Just looking at the Cressi Tecnica wetsuit, and wondered if anyone has got one / used one and can comment?

I'm looking at the 3.5 mm option as I dive in tropical water - do you reckon even 3.5 mm is too thick, considering the fact that the pants are overalls?

From what I've seen, there is only the brown camouflage - or are there other colours available?

Finally, I'll be buying online so will have to trust the Cressi size chart - is this a good way to go, or has anyone had problems using this chart before? From what I've read thus far, when in doubt, go for the smaller option!

Thanks guys,

Aidan.

Hi Aidan,

Not sure about tropical waters - but I use a 5mm Technica here in the UK and I would recommend the suit to anyone.

I tried mine on in a shop and bought it direct from them with a little haggling to get the price down!

Cheers

Haha, good stuff!! Thanks heaps for the reply Ryan, it's good to know!

What about the colours, do you know about that? I've only seen the brown camo on the European sites, but then I found the suit for sale on an Aussie website and it appears to be green camo?

Cheers,

Aidan.

Camo green is last years model - the one I own.

For the 2010 model they changed to brown with more of the actual suit covered in brown camo than the earlier model I own.

Who knows why? But it has served me well since I owned one.

I see... be interesting to know why.

You're a wealth of information mate, thanks heaps again!:friday

Cheers,

Aidan.

Righto, after taking my measurements about 3 times and working out where I am on the Cressi size charts, it seems that most of my measurements suggest that I'm a size 4.

However, my height is 186cm... which is borderline size 5 to size 6. Is height any more important than the other measurements? From what I've read on various threads, the answer is no, and when in doubt, pick the smaller size, so I'm leaning towards the 4. Also all my wetsuits in the past (and present) are size 5, but these are all scuba and surf wetties, not open cell ultrastretch suits.

I'm pretty thin with a bit of a gut, but the main problem I guess are my chicken legs - my thighs register on the extreme low end of the Cressi scale, my knees on the extreme high end (figure that out!) and everything else around size 4, with height and waist around size 5!

With this amazing body :)t), obviously a custom or at least trying some suits on would be the go, but unfortunately that's not an option, so it's got to be on the internet.

So, I think I'll go for the size 4, but if anyone has had a good or bad experience buying a suit designed for someone well below their height, please let me know urgently!!

Cheers,

Aidan.

Aidan,

I would go for a made to measure (MTM) wetsuit if I were you, there's nothing worse that an ill fitting wetsuit!

If you do this I think the extra money will well worth what you pay.

Cheers

Ryan

Very true Ryan, and thanks for the advice. I'll think I'll risk it with the Cressi though, as I'm a bit short on time in relation to getting a mate to bring it over to me.

The online shops I use allow returns for wrong sizing, so worst case scenario I'll have to send it back and use my current wettie in the meantime, but hopefully that's not the case!

Cheers

i went to see the tecnica 3.5mm today and its a very nice suit, but it doesnt seem that stretchy and flexible, is the interior open cell??? cressi speak of a metallite material does anyone know what this is???

Milan, I've had my Tecnica for 2.5 years now, and am pretty happy with it. The fit was good, and yes the interior is open cell - not sure, but I think the metallite is a bit of marketing name or something.

A few things to note:

One of the shoulder straps tore after about 1 year. They are glued and stitched, but the very hole of the stitching is what caused the weakness that resulted in the tear. I patched it up myself (or rather my mate did!) and it's been fine since.

The stitching on the lower part of the jacket has all pulled out. I use a normal belt, not a Marseilles type, and I think the pinching and rubbing of the belt is what has pulled the stitching out. No real dramas though, it hasn't caused the suit to come apart or anything.

The material of the hood, around the jaw area and the side of the face, has all stretched and unstitched and pulled apart. This is because there is no "rim" sewn into the edge of the hood to hold it all together, it's just the edge of the rubber if you get what I mean. However, the main cause of this would have to be the user's fault - it gets pretty warm in the water here, and I'm generally pulling on the chin of my hood to pump cooler water into my suit!!

So there are a couple of things they can definitely improve on, as always, but after 2.5 years the suit is going strong and hence I'm pretty happy with it.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Aidan

thanks man i apreciate the feedback, iam surprised that all these things happened to it cressi are meant to be very durable. i have a 7mm competition and its still in mint condish after 2 years.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised too, I use Cressi gear a lot, and I do all the right things with my gear (fresh water wash, no direct sunlight, etc, etc). Maybe I got a bad one? Still, it's still in good nick apart from these things (the shoulder strap is a pretty bad one though), so I'm still happy with it.

Cheers

i love their camo, iam goin to check out omer and h desault and then i will decide hopefully!! its hard to choose a suit because each one has pros and cons hehe. i found a perfect beuchat mundial green camo, amazing oopen cell and beautiful camo but it didnt come in my size hehe

Yep, their camo is why I bought it, here in NE Brazil the water is green, and it suits the conditions perfectly!!

Good luck, let me know which one you decide on!

Cheers
