Can anyone recommend a good place to freedive in Croatia? Preferably not too far from either Split or Dubrovnik as that's where the cheap flights arrive....

you could try Pula and the team of

www.meeresschule.com

They are freedivers and also marine biologists. Therefore they explain in detail what you will see on site. Also interesting divesites with plenty of little caves.

Pula is quite far from Split and Dubrovnik, thats all I can say. I haven't been freediving in that region, but if you like maybe I can get you a contact from a local club.
I also think DB member Vedrana is from around there. Maybe she will help you out a bit.

And another thing be avare of the dynamit fishers. There's pleny of them around.

Sam, when are you going? Can I come? I need to dive!! Have not done too much recently (!) and need to get some in soon before i start vdiving in the bath.

I'm going to be in Croatia too, have a week's luxury on a boat mid July with the in-laws, then we'll be looking for somewhere cheap and near nice diving - but also good for the non-diving family members...

Hi,

were there somebody from the forum at Brsec (north from Opatija, south from Rabac, Istria) this weekend? There was an Italian team diving at the place. We were also diving there, just said hello to them. They said it was Apnea Academy.

BTW: That place is quite good: not far from the shore 60m. Yeah, and we also saw two car wrecks at about 25m.

Well there are actually several worldrecord attempts and national record attempts going on in croatia from the 25th on I think. I only know Herbet is there, Nathalia and one german and croatian? guy.

Does somebody know, which of these places is the best to spearfish without boat (walking!) and in depths between 5 and 20m ? Krk/Baska, Mali Losinj, Coast opposite of Pag (Karlobag) or Biograd.

To especially the coast of biograd seems sandy and shallow. no rocks. am I rigth? Or are there some possibilities withaout boat?

I'm planning a trip to Croatia (April-May 2016), and island of Vis was recommended by many. I'd like to complete my AIDA2 with open water module (aida 2 pool done), any recommendations for an instructor to contact?
