That's the length of an entire sitcom, minus the commercials!

NetFlix your favorite show and try to hold your breath for its duration!?!?

Impressive! Must be hard to shut your brain / thoughts down for that long.

Well the CO2 build up is like crazy, so that may induce a numbing effect.

Maybe the great Goran himself can walk us through how a 22:30 breath-hold feels, also in comparison to a 9 minute normal breath-hold?

The great Goran lool :D

Well first of all it is much different than normal static, I did it like you might have heard already in a process of a scientific experiment regarding influence of O2 on training process and athlete form.

Sensations are quite different than in normal static, its all about CO2 you have oxygen (by our calculations) for more than 40min breath hold. But CO2 can be tricky and CO2 blackout is not only ugly but quite dangerous, and one should never try O2 maximums without doctor and ambulance present.

With longer holds (20+min) CO2 levels are sky high, I have measured levels that considering medical books are at the coma inducing and death threshold, way over 100mm/Hg. Cant really give you any more details, but one when papers will be finished you will all be able to read it.

Is it possible to heavily pack O2 and as the hold progresses to let out some "air" so that you relive some CO2?

I've done a steep 16x50m dynamic in 12'36", and the CO2 was also very high. Upon finishing I had a headache from it, which lasted for about 15 minutes. I felt like being a bit stoned. Did you experience the same effect Goran the Great? ;)

I've heard that towards end of O2 static there is not much to blow out...:)

Re: Croatian Freediver Goran Colak Breaks Guinness World Record For Longest O2-Aided

Congrats Goran! Would it help at all with CO2 buildup if you really starved yourself for a few days prior to the hold?

Re: Croatian Freediver Goran Colak Breaks Guinness World Record For Longest O2-Aided

After big O2 static, effects of CO2 are much higher than after 16x50m (I did that in 11min, and had a headache but it was gone after 30min or something), and you feel them a lot, including sever vertigo, tremors, BIG headache and other kinda disturbing symptoms. Of course that is different from person to person. About the amount of air you finish your 20min breath old with, yes it is much smaller than on beginning.

Congratulations, Goran!

Just a couple of questions from a humble amateur :)
(and sorry if I missed this somewhere) --

How long did you inhale pure(?) O2 before 22:30 STA?
