Finally, I'm getting my knee fixed :) Its been a long time waiting, but at last, hopefully, I'll have a strong and stable knee again soon :crutch 22nd January is D day!

Anyway, I am a little nervous! I was just wondering if anyone on here had had a cructiate ligament re structure, and what the recovery etc was like? I know it's going to be a slow rehab (nightmare, patience is not one of my strong points), but anyone with any experience of the op, I would appretiate any tips, advice etc. The surgeon is taking a graft from my hamstring if that makes any difference to the rehab. He's told me I will be non weight bearing for 2 weeks and should be mobile without crutches in a month, and I will obviously be having lots of physio from very soon after the op. Other than that, I know nothing - maybe ignorance would be bliss, but I'm a nosey bugger so I want to hear all the gore :yack

Ta very much for any info.

Well that is excellent news, it's been a while now. Don't know the first thing about the op but I am so glad something is happening at last :)

Amphibious (Coiln) on DB has had some extensive knee surgery, and he's a hell of a diver still. If he doesn't step in here, give him a PM.

The docs are pretty good on that kind of thing. Good luck.

If I remember right, thats one that Amphibious had done. Seems that a camel. . . . . Well, Jeremiah did think that being "covered by a camel" was a great thing and much to be desired. I don't think Colin found it so.

What Is The Anterior Cruciate Ligament?

I think i twisted or slipped one of those knee ligaments back in springtime, just before I went on my long walk from Oregon to Arcata. It didn't bother the walking much, but I couldn't run, leap or turn, just walk straight ahead. Oddly, it seems to have happened while sitting at my desk, one leg angled under the other, without any pop or pain, just somehow slipping off the meniscus knee cap somehow, bunched up on the right side of it. Cruciate ligament, |X| I guess it holds the upper and lower legs in alignment. Good luck, don't stress it.

Willer (Colin/Amphibious) had three or four knee surgeries. I believe all four ligaments were ruptured due to an unfortunate incident with a camel (I couldn't make this up). I talked to him on MSN a fair amount during his recoveries, so here's what I recommend from the perspective of a sympathetic bystander: make sure that you have access to a computer during the recovery so you can IM your friends during the hours of unutterable boredom. A laptop is good because you can use it while you're elevating your leg. Try and find out if you will be given a painkiller stronger than Advil, because Advil doesn't cut it. You will need a comfortable way to elevate your leg. If I can, I will find the gnarly post-surgery pics that he posted on here. Yours might be different because your knee damage is not as extensive. If you don't want 'em, just let me know :)

Willer could help you more than anyone, I think. You are right to ask for advice. It's better to be prepared for something like that than to get taken by surprise. Good luck and stay positive :)

Thanks for the replies so far - hope Colin steps in with some more info :) Pics would be fine Batray, I want gorey details rofl

I did badly tear the medial and lateral ligaments as well, though they have healed now, just the cruciate to go and then I should be fixed. I have a good friend who is a nurse so if the painkillers don't cut it, then she'll step in to help me out with some proper stuff.

I'm know I'm going to be bored out of my brains and my butt is in danger of looking like a sofa already so I dread to think what I will look like in 3 months time! And my mum's coming over to help out with the kids etc and she's a fab cook - oh dear!!

Oh how I wish I could turn the clock back - dancing is a very dangerous pastime, had nothing to do with the alcohol consumed of course :D

There's an thread with info and some advice from the camel incident. I hope it helps. My guess is that your situation will not be as drastic. Willer appears to have deleted the pics, but he will probably share them if you ask.

Hey I hear you about wanting to turn back the clock. I have a titanium plate on my right clavicle due to a rather spectacular tumble in a self-defense class. The bone was broken and misaligned for two and a half months before I could get a surgeon to fix it. I should have listened to my gut about not jumping over four people...even though I did just famously with three :D Live and learn.

Donna sorry to say that I know the sum total of bugger all along the knee surgery line, but I do wish you all the best for the operation itself and for a speedy and as pain free a recovery as possible.
Get on the morphine girl that’s the way forward for pain relief, did me the power of good after I had my little job back in the summer.:crutch:D:D:crutch
As for all the gory bits we look forward to a post or two giving us all the low down on how you got on.
All the BEST me dear:)

Yap! Same from here, Donna! A couple of people I know had that done to them (IIRC) and it doesn't seem too big a deal.
I hope You'll be jumping about in no time at all!

Best of luck Donna.
My wife had the same experience when she was a 20 y.o. volleyball rising talent (her team mates called her "The Grasshopper"). She had just signed a contract with a major professional team, then at very first training session.....CRACK! :crutch
She told me about the pain, the surgery, the recovery, and then happily back to life, walking and kicking. Her chance to become a volleyball "Pro" was wasted forever, but now when she plays beach volley with friends, she's still the grasshopper. She bangs! (...ah...the grasshopper of my heart :inlove)

Hi Donna,

I had 4 surgeries over 3yrs resulting from a severed ACL, PCL, and LCL before it was "fixed". it;s still pretty buggered up, but at least I'm still diving.

I'm in the middle of a training course in Oregon at the moment, drop me a PM and I'll give you my MSN & Skype if you want to chat recovery options.

Ouch ouch ouch ouch..... give me drugs !!!!

Its all over, I'm out of hospital and now laid up at home with my knee in a brace, looking forward to starting physio tomorrow - not! Doctor said it went well and my hamstrings were nice and strong for the graft rofl knew I had thunder thighs for a reason!

More later, off for my pain relief fix....
