hi i was thinking of buying myself a carbon barrel (110cm), i asked some fabricants of carbon fibre if they could make a barrel with 28x2 mm.
And for my suprise this seems to be a standard item:inlove !!!
it would cost 20,25 per meter, with the following specs;

CFK-barrel 28x2mm .
direction of fibre:unidirectional ??
Matrixsystem:Epoxy-System ??

would this do the job for a speargun?what do you think??
are there any muzzles/handles which wont fit for the barrel??
thx for input

sure 28mm x2 wall thickness is okay. My Excalibur carbon is 28x1,5 while my
T20 is 28x1,85, so...
Fitting a muzzle maybe an issue, cause every muzzle and handle has its own fittings (I mean the holes for threads and spines in different positions and diamater. And moreover, some hadles are male and others are female), so I'm afraid you'll have to drill the barrell with some careful Black & Decker job...

first, thx foxfish but this would be almost 5times the price+ expensive shipping!!

i guess i cant avoid the drilling:hmm , but i was worried more about the way the fibre is used, weight, flex etc.
with a little sanding i guess it should work!
for that price i guess its wort a try:inlove

ps: what do you mean with female/male handles spaghetti?

male handles insert into a female tube, female handles are hollow so the tube would be male, going into it.. really quite easy to remember

Beuchats compononts are great as they are female only, Omers on the other hand are female and male. Which are not designed for such a thick side wall.

hi harpune,

20.25 per meter is a good price for a 28mm od x 2mm wt cf tube and it would be just fine for what you are doing. any male handle like the omer, demka and others will fit this tube with a little of fine sanding just enough to get a nice snug fit. also you can use any standard muzzle or try one of these Hammerhead Muzzles: Spear gun modification, Diving Gear.

be extra careful when drilling the holes in the cf to screw the muzzle and handle to the barrel, i would drill the holes a bit oversize in the tube and a bit undersize in the handle and muzzle so you don't crack the cf as you screw down on it. one more thing, omer sells a shaft guide that glues on top of the barrel for the rail.

you will probably spend as much or more on parts as you would if you were to buy the complete gun but you would miss all the fun of making it yourself and would not have the satisfaction of shooting a fish with something you put together. besides, what better way to pass the winter and dream of warm summer days? good luck and post pic when done.

btw where are you getting the cf? is there a website?

Good advice from an experienced gun builder but the stick on omer guide is not the easiest thing to apply in a completely straight line! I have had most success using a home made jig but that took almost as long to build as making the wooden barrel!

HEYA

The site is Secar | Carbonplatten Carbonrohre Präzisionsfrästeile CNC-Frästeile Drehteile Faserverbundwerkstoffe, but i guess they would not reply to an english mail.
try google for carbon fibre and send any company matching you find a mail (thats what i did ), try also companys for windsurfing staff as there are parts made of carbon.#
what is that difficult with the stick on rail, i cant imagine??
thx to all by the way anywone needs a 90cm barrel, as they sell only in full meters i will have to take 2m for my 110:head , the more you takr the cheaper it gets obviously.

The omer stick on rail is a good piece of kit that if fitted in a straight line will (at least potentially) stabilise the spear. However it must be fitted with the utmost care if you don't want the flexible rail to curve around the barrel. The adhesive is very sticky & you get one chance! Of course it might just be me?

Harpune,
I'll have the spare 90cm mate! Check your pm's.

the omer track is not the easiest thing to install straight, it helps if you have a way to keep it straight as you lay the pipe over it. install the track on the pipe first and then fit the handle and muzzle to match the rail.

when you cut the tube use a fine hacksaw blade and make sure you use tape to mask the area you are cutting. keep the tube flat as you cut.

a 2mm wt barrel is very good as most guns on the market use tubes of thinner wall thickness, with a omer t20 or a demka handle, a hammerhead muzzle with 2 16mm bands and a 6.5 or 6.75mm shaft you will have a kick ass gun for a good price.

if you have some extra tube i would be interested in getting some.

Here a videoclip as it to do O.ME.R.

here's a link to a site in greece that carries both the demka and the merou handle/muzzle, i've ordered from them in the past and they have good service, i'm sure they speak english but if not let me know and i'll talk to them.
