hey i went freediving today and my d3 was doing somthing really wierd (its showing the battery picture, think that means low bat but it happend b4 and the wierd thing didn't happen). So here's what happend the watch would seem normal on the surface but when i would dive down it would cycle all fast between screens, like time display, "free" and "mem". it would not read my depth or dive time even if i put it in free mode b4 starting the dive. anyone ever have this problem/\?

When the battery is low weird things happen. I've seen 4-5 batteries go and never the same 'weird' twice.

Like Bill says, low battery causes these wierd things to happen. Why don't you simply change the battery and see wheter this solves the problem? It's done in a few minutes.

Bye, Ivo

yea I am going to change the battery but now i'm having another problem (that i had the first time i had to change the batt). I can't get the clear cap on the back of the watch off., its stuck and wont turn and i'm afraid to force it b/c i will strip the groove which is what happend the first time i had to change the battery. i ended up having to have it removed at the dive shop and replace the clear cap. any tips on how to get this thing off without breaking it/? I was thinking of oiling it but don't know if that would be bad because the oil could possibly get into the watch when i open it.

Put it in the fridge to cool it down and then push down on it firmly while you twist it. When you do it up in the first place the air in the battery compartment gets compressed. This is good as it helps protect the seal, however it also makes it hard to open as it creates friction on the closing lugs that you have to overcome. Cooling it first will reduce the pressure a little inside and then pressing down firmly before and while you turn it will releave the pressure on the closing lugs. Also, make sure you use something that fits very snuggly into the opening groove as you want to spread the load very evenly across the groove. The plastic is very soft and a badly fitting coin will push on two points only and probably just score the groove. Take a little care and it will come off without a problem

ok, thanks for the tips guys. I'm going freediving tomorrow so hopefully i'll get this accomplished tonight.

Besides this problem, how have you liked your D3? I was looking at buying one this week, but have also had my eye on some others as well. I know there are many threads on the D3 alreay, but since you were writing about it anyway, I was just looking for some more opinions.

well, i stripped the battery cover for the second time in a row...so i guess i'll be diving w/o a watch tommorrow which sucks. also i'm away at college with no dive shops around that sell D3s so do i have to send it to sombody now to get a new cover and remove the messed up one.

The D3 has been great except for having to replace the battery cover every time the batt runs out. the cover is serioulsy made of the cheapest plastic i have ever seen. you can stick your fingernail into the plastic,
