Hi everyone! I booked a vacation in Dahab from 2nd to 9th of May. I'll be there with my gf. She's totally new to freediving except a SSI beginners course and I'm pretty unexperienced myself in open water. We're staying at the Tropitel Dahab Oasis. Is anyone around by that time and willing to introduce us to a few nice freediving spots? :)

i stood in Tropitel Dahab Oasis 3 years ago if i remember correctly...it was the first freediving organised by a bunch of dtermined romanian freedivers :D
this site himself is not so good for freediving [not a very spectacullar view and not so many freedivers there who can actually be your buddy-diver]...BUT...

to the south there is a location called LIGHT-HOUSE BAY; there you will find noumerous amazing spot for freediving and sea-sighting and also there is the school of freediving named FREEDIVING-DAHAB, where you can meet Lotta Ericson and Linda Paganelli [freediving instructors]

and of course, to the north of TROPITEL, the well-known BLUE-HOLLE [ i guess the name speaks by himself] :p

unfortunately, our team will be in Dahab between 11 and 24 may, and we cannot see eachother...but i hope that i gave you some good tips!

Of course I heard the names of the big spots and already watched a dozen videos of them. :D
I'll also bring my own buoy, but I don't know yet where to get a ground weight and where to attach my buoy. I guess I'll pay Freedive Dahab a visit. I thought they were located directly at the Blue Hole? Have you been to the Canyon? It should be right in front of the Tropitel.
Do you bring a monofin? How do much does it cost to get it into the plane?

at the time we where there no extracost was necessary because the monofin goes in the cargo-bay...so as long as the ammount of luggage do not overpass the designated kilograms, i guess no extra payement will be necessary...
i did not went to the Canyon but that is indeed a good spot....I forgot about this :( [is not quite in front of tropitel, but a very little way to the north [between 14 and 25m depth; you definitly must have a safety freedivier with you!!]
we made the ground weight for the buoy just attaching 10 pieces of led from our weight-belt :p
the Freediving Dahab is not located at the Blue hole, but at the Light-House Bay....however is very possible that they spend most of there time at the Blue Hole [better ask them]

Don't sweat it, especially since you're only going for a few days! Go to Freedive Dahab - that's what I do :)
They organise trainings at the Lighthouse or Blue Hole, and can take you snorkelling in the nice spots. I'd recommend the Canyon & the Islands. El Bells is OK but the coral is quite bleached. Ras Mohammed is absolutely FANTASTIC! You need to plan a full day for this one though.

Since we have the Canyon almost in front of our hotel, we'll explore that by ourselves. But for the other spots I'll go to FDD, I guess that'll be really the best option.:D
I already watched the Ras Mohammed video a few times. Really beautiful footage, can't wait to see the site by myself. :)

also don't miss the Bluie Hole
you will find many freedivers there practicing, sometimes the lineyards and buoys are allready in place above the hole....
i'mu shure you will manage to have a wonderful free-vacation!!

don't forget to have an experienced safety freediver with you...
in those parts of the wold, the waters are verry deep even in a few metters from the shore...the cristal clear water may trick you to have a wrong perception of the real depth in particular places ans situations...
there is also the lion fish and the fire coral and the sting ray and etc...
far from me to discourage you...is only that i consider red sea a difficult place to [free]dive and many precaution must be made...
