im on the sunshine coast in queensland and while i am not new to the sport of diving ,I am new to the idea of diving at great depths .I havent done any courses yet but can dive to roughly 30 or forty feet and have about a 2 minute breath holding capacity .This forum has probably saved my life because I didnt have a clue about shallow water blackout and sambas or any of the physics about it . ive been a breath holder under water all my life and now I have learnt how dangerous holding my breath in a pool by myself can be ! And I usually do it at some degree every time I go in a pool .As a young fellah I used to hyperventilate and dive all the time ,unsupervised .Its a wonder I am alive at all .I can say that I have done it all completely wrong .This forum and the links attached to it,including amazing youtube links have given me more education about the sport in the last 2 weeks than I have achieved in the last 30 years.
My interest is in spearfishing but in particular the psychology that surrounds spearfishing and coming into contact with sharks .Having the mind control to remain calm and un pannicked is my goal. Some people seem to have nerves of steel.
I have been scuba diving with a pack of black tip reefies at the solomon Islands when I was 18 and that took a lot of courage ,but I was with 15 other people at the time as well
Ive seen countless wobbegong sharks around here including one about 8 foot long at Yaroomba .Ive had fish Ive speared stolen off me too by them .
If there are any Sunshine coast free divers out there who I can meet and learn from years what I have to offer is an 40 years experience of the sea including six as a lifesaver ,and Im not a bad predicter of the weather too .I
I also have an ocean Kayak that I have been fixing up and is now sea worthy so that is available for adventures to Old Woman Island .Drop me a line if your keen for a dive ....cheers Dave
