Nice catch David! What did you do with the fish afterwards? I bet the locals were interested in your activities?

Nice haul Dave, even more impressive with such a short gun!

Hi to all,
Thanks for the interest in my fishing adventures.
To answer your question Shoutatthesky...... I run a restaurant in Goa, the fish are filleted and served or filleted and deep frozen. My local friends then take the carcasses and waste nothing... they make fish curry rice from the heads, bones etc. The locals are interested, but as I think you know not in a nice way. When I arrive back I am very selective about who sees what. I have had bad experieces in the past while spearing under large bridges near tidal estuaries..... snappers love swimming around bridge piers/legs ....the experiences were of the stoning kind..........

FoxFish...... its not the size of your weapon, its way you use it! But yeah shorter guns have limited range, although pneumatics are throwing an 8mm spear and it has great power for a couple of metres. Choice of spear tip helps... something fine with really decent floppers that articulate nicely.

Cheers, David

David, great trophies!
Excuse my ignorance, but can one spearfish in Goa itself?

Hi to all,
Yes hyeparis, there is some good spearfishing in Goa. As far as i am aware there are no rules governing spearfishing in India at all. Much of Goa is sandy beach and not great for spearing. There are some rocky headlands and some tidal estuaries that are good. Much of your luck is determined by visibility... frequently viz is less than a metre and at best 4 metres. A couple more pictures attached.... the Grouper was caught in Goa, 9th Nov this year, in a tidal river. When the viz is not good theres always something else to......

Regards, David
