DB chat room

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Ive been in DB for a little over a year, i noticed that we hardly ever use the chat room..a lot of times in the discussion we would all be on line and posting rather than chatting..

You know what, Ive noticed that too. Why dont we use it more often, I recall reading in one thread where the guys posting moved over to the chat room and thats it. Maybe its too easy to loose the plot there talking about all different things

Chat is rather exclusive, because it allows to participate only to those who are right online in that very moment and does not let any track for others to follow up. Discussion board is much better, because the information stays stored online, and others can profit from it when reading, or can take part on it too.

So chat is good when fast data exchange is needed - like in the case of some live transmission, when only some of the members have access to the source of the information, or maybe between some friends who want to arrange a diving trip, but otherwise I think the forum is quite a good and suitable platform.

used to be lots of folks in there :D during my last knee surgery I lived in the DB chat room :D

I can see activity logs for the chat room and there are people in there from time to time. We are considering doing some moderated chats in the near future.

What I have suggested before is that people try to arrange times to meet up in the chat room and organise it via the Beach Bar.

its the first time i notice that your location is in wimbeldon stephan, seems odd you picked up freediving etc... as opposed to say tennis :) I'm sure i speak for all of us when i say:
Glad you did :) imagine this to be a tennis forum :)
cheers

Can't connect to DB chat room. The alternative:

Me neither :-/
It's possible that it's a firewall/proxy issue. You need to connect to ports 8000-8009 from Your 'puter which may be blocked. Apart from that, You don't have much choice on the client side. the DB-chat is run on proprietary software with an unknown protocol.
If one wants to go past a proxy-server with this, one has to buy the 'enterprise-'version of the client.

I just created a channel #deeperblue on irc.freenode.net, I'm not sure how much IRC- and geek-lore there is in deeperblue, but maybe this is a viable alternative for those not able/wanting to use the java-applet here.

@Papa Smurf: I hope You're not offended. I just can't connect to the official chatroom and am trying to find a way for synchronous communication. I'll gladly give You Op-/Ownerstatus for the channel if You want it.
