I was wondering what the motivation was to change the layout of the Deeperblue frontpage. It is totally distorted under firefox with the top article creating a huge gap of empty space. With Internet explorer it looks a bit better but not nearly as clean as the old layout with all the articles together up top. Anyone else have input/feedback?

Eric,

The reason behind the change is that we are testing some new layouts in preparation for a big new redesign in the next month.

I'm obviously keen to hear feedback on good/bad points on the layouts, however can't see where the problems you are describing on with the distortion - I tested the layout on IE and FireFox before releasing it but obviously can't test every type of browser and OS so any help would be great.

Can you email me some screenshots?

Thanks

Big new design? I quite liked the old design, it was familiar and worked well. I know that a new design would do much to up the aestheic quality of the front page, but I agree with Erik; often such high quality designs create problems loading. That's from my experience with my crap computer anyway. New designs such as on hotmail, facebook and myspace mean that I cannot use the websites as well as I used to, and so the whole point of upgrading is lost.
However, the frontpage does look good and will probably be a good choice in the long run as long as it works well too.
Any other plans for upgrading any other parts of deeperblue?

Eric it looks OK to me with both Mozilla and IE. Have you taken those liquid vision goggles off yet mate?

Alix,

Hehehe - you've responded to a very old post. We did some minor tweaks in early 2006 which caused some problems.

This new design has been carefully coded to try and provide as much cross-browser compatibility as possible. I can't promise it'll definitely work on all browsers but we've tried to make it as good as possible on all!

rofl rofl rofl I fell for that too rofl
ERIC!!! Sell me some goggles mate rofl

Impressive work Stephan. Just one problem to report.
is it just me being dumb or....is the access to the forum more difficult than before? When i click on "join the discussion" I expect to enter the forum's main menu as before, but nothing happens. I have to click on the title of a singular discussion to enter the forum...am I missing something?
EDIT: oops. sorry. didn't check the date

haha oops. Oh well. It seems to work fine for me anyway,a lthough I am using a good computer at the moment.
It does look nicer than the old one though
