A few years back, when I held my first freedive-A-Palooza, we had a bunch of DEMO fins sent to us frm Specialfins.

They included their latest assortment of blades in different stiffnesses and colors. We were able to put them into the footpockets of our choice to try them out. I think we had a couple dozen divers that first year trying out the various fins they sent.

After the weekend was over I sent all of the blades to another diver in a differnt part of the country- who got a group of people together to go diving and repeated the whole process.

This went on a few times until Cdavis bought the Kelpies out from under me- just kidding Connor. ;)

Anyways, it looks like Jyri is back with the company and is looking to do it again. Here's part of the email he sent me:

We have on special blade where one side is kevlar and second side is carbon.
Will be great to get some feedback about them.

But, if this idea OK for you then after testing the fins, please send them to another guy in another country.
Will be great if we can fallow the fins and feedback from different places.

So it would be nice if we could get a list going of divers who would be interested in trying them out. If you get them it's YOUR responsability to pay for shipping to the next group of divers. Jyri is also looking to have them sent to groups of divers so they can try them out and report back to him what they like, or dislike, about them.

It looks like I will get the fins before our Freeze-A-Palooza event this winter- so we'll test them out under the ice for all of you first to make sure they don't crack when it's cold out. ;)

Please respond to this thread what part of the country your in and how many divers you could put together to test them out.

If any of you are scuba divers you'll recognize this as being kind of like the Drysuit Demo's the DUI and Viking put on- since you normally want to try a $2,500 drysuit out before you buy one.

Jon, I'd be ineterested to know what kind of blades they're sending. Drop me a line and let me know. I'm sure I could get guys from our club together for something.

The only thing that I've been told so far is this new composite blade that's carbonfiber on one side and fiberglass on the other- I think.

Hi Jon,
Might be interesting to test them out down here in Dean's - in the first week of February we're running a course with Davide Carrera which will be half CWT and half CNF, so I am sure the instructors and most of the students would be interested to give them a blast.
How many fins are there?
Dates would be Jan 31 - Feb 8.

No problem sending them down there Will, I just don't have them yet and am not sure how soon they will get here.

My ice diving event is right after that, begining of February, so maybe it would work out better to send them to you first and then you send them to me.

Jyri's contact is here: DeeperBlue Forums - View Profile: Jyri Sebak or here: jyri@specialfins.com

I'm not sure how many pairs they'll send. Last time I think they sent 4 pairs of blades.

Jon,

Strangelove and I would love to try some of them next summer.
Does Alaska work as a foreign country? (We think it does) ; )

Judging from the statements made by your governor I'd say that it does- you're part of Russia aren't you? rofl

Jon

What a dolt. I didn't even notice that this was in the bi-fins section, and thought you were talking about monofins... :blackeye
Never mind.
Cheers, Will.

I've owned three of their monofins and would love to have them send me a couple ot try, but that would limit the size of the fin to just one footpocket.

With the bi-fin blades they cn send a thin box, with a bunch of blades, and you can stick them into whatever your favorite footpocket happens to be that day.

Jon

Will they fit my yellow footpockets Jon? I know I'm in a strange country but maybe not foreign. How are the Mustangs?

I actually emailed him about that Bill.

He said that they could make blades for the Mustang footpokets, but it doesn't sound like any of the new blades coming here will be made that way- which is a bummer for me because Mustang footpockets are all I own these days!

I just plan on borrowing someone elses pockets for the demo and send them on. If there's something that I really like I'll ask about having them made with the Mustangs- like maybe a monofin????;)

If you have a group out your way that wants to give the bi-fins a shot Jyri can add you to the list.

Jon

I'd love to! Several divers around here and I'll try and get East Coast participation. Should be a bunch of divers total. I can arrange same day comparisions with several different blades.

"bought" ?? Well, better not go into that.

How do I arrange to get the blades last?

Connor

Id love to try them out. I have a small group of freedivers who dive with my regularly and we could all try them out. Please add me to the list!

Jon,
We can see Russia (oh yeah?). That doesn't mean we're part of it.
Although, rumor is that the Russians are planning to make a bid to buy us back. They're planning on using mortgage backed securities to back the deal:head
