Depth Gauges?

I was looking into purchasing some type of wrist mount depth gauge, i was looking at the Aeris 200' with max depth indicator, but i found a trident one for $20.00 and the Aeris is $90. does anyone have the trident or another one they think is better? i dont want to shell out all the bones for a freedive computer yet! Thanks

At that price,the trident sounds like it has to be a "capillary" guage, a sorry alternative. Could be some kind of super clearance price for a decent guage? A depth guage with a max depth indicater is handy, I'd certainly want one. As an alternative, you can probably find used scuba guages that will fit in a wrist holder, much cheaper.

If you are going to spend $90 on a simple depth guage, consider biting the bullet and getting a freediving computer. Pricey, but it does so much more that you will really like. I went from a max depth depth guage to a D3 and got addicted to it real fast. Money well spent.

yeah it is a capillary gauge, are those bad? are they inacurate?

La Spirotechnique or Suunto SM-16 wrist mounted are good. There is a whole lot of whack rubbish available in this market. I have a SM-16 (45meter) and its bombproof and has max depth and zeroing.

Don't necessarily go for something that goes to hundreds of feet. Some of the shallower scuba gauges for rebreather divers are very good and more accurate for freedivers.

Alternatively, a dive computer - but I like the retro feel of an analogue gauge. No batteries to worry over.

Capillary guages are less than optimal. There is no way to record depth. They are hard to read in much more than 30 ft. and tend to get water bubbles in the cap tube, buggering the depth measurement. On the up side, no moving parts, nothing to break, price.
