Has anyone owned or used the H.Dessault Quatro Carbone speargun as i am very keen to hear first hand experience.I am looking to purchase the 90 cm version for use in UK waters.

I do own an 100 and an 120. Due to unfavorable conditions, I haven't used the 120 yet. But I'm very happy with the 100. Very precise, manouverable and light. Mine has the Dessault reel, which, I presume, you won't need in UK waters. One thing that didn't work that well was the open muzzle. Sometimes the mono keeps coming out of it. So, IMHO, you'd better using the factory wire frame to be installed between the band sockets and the muzzle threads.

My rig is for tropical waters, though. 7 mm shaft and thick mono (1,8mm). Despite loving the Dessault rubbers, I may have to upgrade the rubbers for a 3/4" diam. for those extreme range open water shots. But that's only because of my heavier shaft. For the regular 6,5 mm shaft the Dessault rubbers are fantastic. A 9 kg dusky you see in my avatar was the first victim of my Quatro 100.

I've used it's predecessor in uk waters, a 90cm carbon and was very impressed. Good value for money gun, well-designed and well-built. Think you have to order direct from website unless you are on hols in france and can buy from a re-seller.

Thanks for the info ted and spaniard.I will hopefull place my order this week and will post some pictures of success as soon as i can.

Just an addendum, the jury isn't out yet on my replacing Dessault rubbers for thicker ones. I'd like to test it in more clear water and longer range, but conditions haven't allowed me yet. BTW, I got another dusky grouper yesterday with it. A 10 pounder; I hit it ~6 ft. away from speartip in lower tier of the gill plate. Didn't stone it but stopped on its tracks at the shot and was retrieved in the same dive without problem.

Thanks for the information Ted.Any chance of some pictures of the set up you use so i can judge what to order.Ordering has been delayed as supplier has a minimum order value so i haven't specified what i want yet.As you said i won't order the reel but the double bar spear is tempting.

Thanks again

Guns are in the club locker. We should go diving tomorrow, so I'll take some pictures and post them

As requested. I filed off the front part of the handle. As for line-wishbones, it's a personal preference, eased by the fact that now pinned european shafts are now being made in Brazil too

Ted, i cant' see the safety button in the handle pic. Did you take it off? Safety on this gun is in an unusual position. Any problems with it?

Thanks very much for the pictures Ted.I am however having problems placing an order in the UK.Does anybody on the forum know of a web site where i can secure a price and shipping costs.

You might check with http://www.miopalmo.fr. This store belongs to people that worked at Dessault's and they share some space too. Or yet, you can contact Dessault directly and explain your difficulties, at http://www.dessault.com/site/descontu.htm

As for the safety, it's a new patented designed inspired on fire handguns', it's in back of the handle (black pressing lever on the photo). When you grab the handle, you press the lever, which, in its turn, disengage the safety. If you let go the handle, the lever comes out and blocks the trigger.

For those old hard-headed salts who don't use safeties (like yours truly), or when you're "thumb shooting" (in dirty water or tight holes), you can lock the safety off (as seen in the photo).

looks like a dyneema wishbone...Use the Constrictor knot to tie.

Yep, They're Rob Allen's dyneema wishbones, the best there are. You couldn't expect less from Rob. Normally, those wishbones outlast the rubbers by years. A good rubber will last maybe a year before it starts to sag, if gun is used, say, 8 times a month. Even so I keep a spare pair in the bag.

Ted which spears did your gun come supplied with?I would like the double winged type so would these have to be ordered as an extra??With spaghetti's help i should be able to order mine next week, just in time for valentines day:inlove :inlove

My guns didn't come with shafts and arrived in two "installments". Firstly were the barrels alone, brought by the French divers who competed in the Copa Latina, last May in Rio. In August, I picked up the rest (handles, reels, muzzles, rubbers) myself in France.

I'm using Divecom's 7 mm stainless pinned shafts. They're Brazilian made. Good quality, unbeatable price and found in every store here. Besides, I know the owners and one of them lives a block from me . I understand they're sold in Portugal, Greece and Spain under different brands. But, living in Europe you've many more good options there.

I presume that in UK waters you'd use a 6,5 mm shaft instead. I understand Seatec are excellent shafts and they've double flopper models. I've seen some guys shoot dentex off Corsica with them. Great holding capacity.
