Devils Lake Sept 8 Big clean up with prizes to be won thru 3 little devils dive shop anybody interested free barbaque as well. I know Jon has done this event in the past. The lake is scenic not very deep fun family outing hiking is good not to difficult. It would be great if a bunch of us freedivers to get together and show the tank divers up and win there prizes as well .

I'll be there- seeing it's only 30 mins from me - what time? where do you want to meet north shore? south shore? I'll probably bring one other diver with me. We've been talking about diving there. Should be fun and Productive!

Could we start late perhaps 11 and meet at North beach not sure how we register. I am guessing we register at 3 devils which is close by the north beach if my poor memory is correct. I will try to web search more on event and post have to surf at work r/t a bad computer virus. I will bring my dive kyak to fill with lake garbage.

devils lake not very deep? if im not mistaken its one of the deepest inland wisconsin lakes that is natural (that means not a mine or sandpit) maybe im crazy. devils lake is a good dive, and a good hike as well. just be careful, last time i was there 3 people were crushed by boulders.

Fleshy,

I'm not sure what lake your talking about, but it's not Devil's Lake. Devil's Lake is only 48'- but I've never been able to find much more than 43' poking around in the bottom.

I wish I could go, but it looks like the wife has plans in Milwaukee that weekend. Anyone diving around there that weekend?

Jon

Would love to be there, but have a Sheboygan Salmon/Spearfishing trip lined up with a guy who used to spearfish (pole spear) in HI all the time.

Good to clean up the mess. We should always try to have a mesh bag along with us & pick up some garbage...good for the PR if people see spearfishermen/freedivers taking the junk out of the lake.

That would be good to add to the spearing contest...most number of cans/bottles, etc...taken out of the lakes. I'll add it to the 2007 contest.

i must be wrong then. i heard that somewhere. but that cant be right because the deepest lake in portage county is 60ft deep. at any rate, this is devils lake by baraboo right?

We're talking about the one by Baraboo.

The deepest, natural, lake in the State is Big Green Lake (236'). The deepest man-made lake in the state is Wazee (319').

Jon

Sorry register thru google search 3 little devils dive shop

wow. bad info i guess. ik that big green was deepest natural, and ik wazee was deepest man made. used to be an iron mine i think, but i had always heard that devils lake was one of the deepest in the state, but at 48' its pretty average.

Anyone got some solid plans on meeting yet? Where and when? I don't know the area, but would love to come up.

In reply #4 - Cigarlung said that we could meet at the north shore at around 11.

-Directions aren't too bad- Take I90/94 North to Portage exit - Go hwy 33 West toward Baraboo- Stay on that road till you get to (what I believe) is the 1st set of Stop Lights- Take a Left at the Stop Light- Follow the Signs. You'll pass 3 Little Devils on the way- That is where I believe we Register- $14 for Divers, $12 for non.

Thanks Scott wish I could get up earlier than 11 hope are weather is good should be a great time.

OK, so I'm planning to head up there. I hope to stop by the dive shop at 10 and be to the lake ~11. I won't have any of my freediving gear in, the owner of the shop I work at has not placed the order yet. I have fins and a mask but I'll have to wear my Henderson and my old pouch weight belt.

So as far as meeting. Can you give me something to look for? I'll be in a white Ford Escape.

Chris- on the North End is a HUGE building (consession Stand or something like that) We can Meet there- I would think that 3 Little Devils would be setting up there stuff somewheres around there. I plan on Stopping by there shop also - I would like to see what they have for Weight. I drive a Gray Durango. I'll see you then!

If you're planning on diving on the north shore of Devil's Lake the best place to park for diving is just on the other side (east) of the railroad tracks, turn right and keep going until the road ends (about 1/4 of a mile) At this spot you'll get the best entry to the deeper water without too much walking or swimming. It's probably about two or three hundered yards south of the boat landing. My wife said I could go if I didn't do somethimg dumb like drown. I should be there around 10:30ish (just look for a red mini-van.
Later,

Brian
