I know that there where a few people interested in going to Devil's Lake this Friday- tol, Rob, Nick, ect.

I plan on being up there for most of the day swimming with my kids. If anyone else is coming up i just might happen to have an extra monofin or wetsuit along.

Water temps should be in the 80's and vis has been pretty good out there. I'll be by the south beach area in front of the pavillion- so Nick can't miss me this time.rofl

Bah, I cannot make it this friday/sat/sun :waterwork :waterwork :waterwork

I think that Rob (cigarlung) is camping out with his family and diving both days. I can only make it up for Friday sicne we have a bunch of family commitments this weekend.

I was so bummed about not being able to go, I went to the pool and sat on the bottom beligerently for long enough that the lifeguards got nervous. I surfaced only to get a lecture from the two lifeguards who were standing at the edge about to jump in. No joke
And, going to the pool did not relieve my frustration

I wish I could hold my breath long enough to warrant that kind of attention. When I have kids, remind me to take them to a pool with such attentive lifeguards.

Have a wonderful time all! As of August 20th I'm a freefreefree man and will happily join anyone for a jaunt aquatic.

No worries Tol,

It looks like we, finally, have enough interest to get some decent training dates scheduled once the summer season calms down a little bit- I can't believe how many weddings and things I have to go to this month!:head

It might take a little while to get up to what Sam has put together with Salt Free, but I think we have a decent base and just need to find some decent depth close to home. devil's lake is OK to work on safety skills and things like that, but Red Granite might be nice for some deeper stuff once it clears up- as it always does in the colder months. Lake Geneva would still be great, but I heard that we still need to figure out some cheaper boat accommodations there. Madison lakes are easy enough to jump into during the winter months- but I wouldn't go into them right now unless I was getting paid to.

Jon, maybe we should put a freediving/spearfishing club together with website and calendar of events to make it easier for local folks to stay in touch and train together?

I'd be up for that but know little about hosting a site. I had been ,ooking for a place to post our photos/videos in the past and be able to direct local freedivers to our activites.

If you, or anyone else local, knows how to go about it I'm all for it.

Jon

That is a good idea Khel. I dont want to take anything away from this site but it would be easier to plan things if we had a shared calendar and email list.

We could probably setup a Yahoo group.

I'm all for planning weekend trips where we could camp and dive all weekend. The one day trips are tougher to justify long travel times.

IF we get the interest I am sure Stephan would allow us our own section on here- much like Saltfree. We would just need to make sure we have enough of an interest to justify that. We would also need some kind of a snazzy name. From the increase in the number of freedivers that I have seen over the past couple of years at the Palooza I'm sure we do, or at least 'will' in the next year's time.

Setting up our own site, with links to this one, would allow us to host some area specific videos and photos, as well as lake maps and such.

Sounds like a great idea. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. I have few computer skills, but I'll happily do some posting at local dive shops. There have to be some latent freedivers floating around out there that might be enticed, were they to find an option for getting active. I'd be interested to see who we can actually get out into the water.

Hey Jon-
You can spearfish in the lake??? Tell me more (I am in Illinois and am looking to whack a couple - I really miss florida)

Not anymore.:waterwork

You used to be ablt to spear in Devil's LAke, and the fish in there were quite tasty since it's so clean, but they planted trout in the lake a couple of years ago and now it's illeagal to even have a gun in the water.
