Hey, I'm new to the sport and I have recently purchased the "manual of freediving" to try and help me out with a starter on basic training. However, I feel as with most sports a social side helps to keep you motivated and more focused. Does anyone know any good places to free dive or spearo around south devon or east devon? And is anyone aware of any socials/ training/ dive groups setting off from these areas as I am student and cant afford to travel to newquay every week:( any advice?

Cheers

Welcome To Deeperblue Lewis,

It's good to hear you've bought manual of Freediving, it provides a good base of knowledge. But Still I strongly advice you to hook up with seasoned freedivers, and learn from them the main principles and foremost learn about safety.
You see Freediving is a fragile sport in terms of it being vulnerable to bad media exposure.
And off cause diving alone removes any second chance when things go wrong.
Also saving up some money for a course and or travel to divebuddy will save you years of trying out, finding the most efficient ways yourself. Sharing the fun is double the fun we say here in the Netherlands.

I know there are some freedivers in Devon, but I don't know them by name. I hope they see your post and report in soon! :)

Enjoy!

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

Im a South Devon spearo and its great spearing down here but I dont think many freedivers are going to give you their spots but if you just have a fin around a bit you'll soon find a nice bass or scallop spot theres plenty about.Good luck and happy spearing.

Thank for the reply both Kars and ifishanyweather. Kars, thank you for the advice and as soon as i can afford the travel I will as I am very eager. ifishanyweather thank you for your post, it's nice to know there are people here practicing and I hope you read my post i sent you on your wall. But if any one is a free diver or spearo in Devon then please continue to post on this thread, and if someone does let me know where a good place to free dive is, I will respect that and not spearo in that area as i understand that you want to keep the sea life in that area.
Thank you everyone and keep posting please:)
