Hello all:

I just got a new Imersion Concept Pro 100 CM gun. I'm using the default 20 MM bands. It's extremly diffucult to reach and stretch theese bands. Can anyone suggest any tips to make this easier?

Is the line that came with it stron enough for 15 KG Groupers or should I switch to no reel & 150 LBS test nylon line?

Thanks

you should be able to load your gun if you place the butt of the gun on your 6pack/belly ( i have neither, couldn´t remember if stomac was with c or k) and load it from there, I have a triaxx 100 with 26cm megaboosters and that is hard, can barely manage it is to be said that eventually the rubbers will get a little more flexible.

if you cant reach it to load on your chest, try resting the but of the gun on your weightbelt, close to the buckle.you will find it to be very comfortable and wont leave blue marks on your body...if you still find it difficult to load, try thinner bands, (18mm or 16mm) until you get usd to the gun and work your way up from there... maybe the bands you got arent that good, ive had a similar experience before.. but really a 6.5 mm spear and 18mm bands is a beautiful setup.
15 kg groupers are very strong and groupers in general tend to run into their caves once they are shot, for safety reasons, you need to have some sort of setup where you could leave the fish and go up for air but at the same time dont loose the fish.
Reel is one option, another option is to have a float and a long line say 15 m at least to tie your gun to the float, as you swim, you drag the float ( you could attach a water bottle, sare gun, stringer to your float, also other people know where you are). once you dive a shoot a grouper, if it holes up, you could simply let go of everything, keep some tension on the line as you ascend and then take your time with several other dives to free the grouper... the reel Vs float argument is a long one and both setups have their pros and cons, so it comes down to what makes you comfortable..
hope that helps.

If you consider buying a reel, then check the market for reels that can go on your imersion gun, the imersion reel is not of the best sort, but then again it´s the cheapest on the market so you won´t loose a million if you don´t like it, it´s about 10Euro on scubastore.com.

Thank you Hcknudsen & Marwan for your replies. I spear in the Arabian Gulf (Qatar) and the current in the specific area where I go is extremely strong, that's why a float would be a pain in the neck to drag, on the other hand, loosing my gun and/or grouper would be a day wrecker. I'm going to try a float and hope to survive the current.
You're absolutely right, the reel that came with my gun looks very cheap and it doesn't look very securly attached to the barrel. I'm going to give a try tomorrow and I'll let you guys know.

One last thing, someone had wrote a tip about loading technichs, cutting an old flip-flop and sticking it to the butt of the gun should help. I'm also going for this tip and thanks again to all.

about the floats, go for an inflatable torpedo shaped float such as omer, cressi and riffe floats, they have the least amount of drag, you almost dont feel it.

I use a 110 gun with 16mm rubbers, so its not really the strenth of the rubbers so much as the lenth of the gun that makes loading difficult, so heres what I do. First hold the gun by the handle and grab the rubbers, stretching them as far as you can, then move the gun to your chest, grab the rubbers with both hands now and finish loading the gun. Heres the tutorial from the rob allan website...

1. Position yourself comfortably in the water, get a good grip on the handle of the gun with your left hand as you prepare to load.

2. With your right hand, reach for the right elastic, pushing with your left hand.

3. With a straight right arm, wedge the gun handle against your chest with your left hand.

4. Once the gun handle is pushed firmly against your chest, release it and use your left hand to grab the left elastic.

5. Use your chest to push and simultaneously pull the elastics with both arms towards the notch on the spear.

6. Click the cable into the spear notch and the gun is ready to fire.
