I'm designing a relatively short, mid handled gun for hunting in low visibility and strong currents. The trigger mechanism will be far to the rear of the gun, to maximize band stretch in this short gun. I intend to power it with 2 or 3 5/8" bands, so I don't need a blue water trigger for the load, but I do want something with a light and consistant trigger pull. I also want to keep the trigger weight down so the gun isn't butt heavy. Sure I could add more wood to balance, but I would like to keep the gun as slender as possible to improve maneuverability in the current. Can anyone tell me the overall dimensions (height, length, width) and weight of the composite Aimrite trigger mech? Any experience (good or bad) that you can share regarding the Aimrite mechanism would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks,

Tin Man

Hi, Tin Man! Eventually everybody wants to build HIS gun... So I am right in the thick of drawing... I think though, I would prefer a well known trigger mech instead of inventing one. So would you post some pictures, dimensions, materials, etc.? Thanks a lot.

The dimensions for the Aimrite trigger were given as:

2.75" long x 1.165" high x 0.460" wide and weighs 1.63 oz. Sorry, I don't have any drawings. Those dimensions were supplied to me on another forum. I don't actually have the mechanism yet.

hi there

im new in the community but not to the sport but i also have same problem to much skill so little ideas to work on, i also need some help with my trigger mech. any ideas please help?

...any ideas...

Well, I can tell you some of the requirements which a spearfishing gun trigger should comply with...
1. It must be able to take 2,or 3 or 4 or 5 bands' load of up to 20 mm EACH...
2. In the 2-5 bands envelope, the trigger firing effort should not increase more than say from 1 to 2,5 kg...
3. That same trigger mech should be silent during firing.
4. It should withstand probably between 2000 and 3000 live firings for 5 years with no repair - just rinse in 'sweet' wat water after each hunt.
5. It should have a relatively short pull...
6. It should not change the effort of pulling regardless of the time in the armed position with the bands on...
7. Etc., ...:duh
