I'm going to in Kodiak September 23-28 visiting family. I would love to get in the water and do some spearfishing. Does anybody have any input on conditions that time of year. Can shore diving be productive? I freedive in Northern California so I'm hoping my 2 piece 5mm will be enough. Any input would be awesome. It would be great if anyone wanted to get on the water let me know.
 
I don't have any info for you I was hoping to get some. I started living/working in Fairbanks during the summer last summer. I don't have much time when I'm up there but wanna hit it up sometime. I could have time in the spring and fail. Anyway curious to get any info on diving anyway in Alaska. Figured it would be halibut but I just started looking into it and it seems like rockfish and lingcod which is also fine.
 
I was up in Kodiak late September and got a few shore dives In. Great viz!! I was only able to find a few small black rockfish. And tons of kelp greenlings. Halibut is earlier in the summer as I was told July, August. A boat would be awesome to get to any good rock piles offshore for lings. You can also go for salmon. I saw a few speros doing that. Water temps were about 50°f and are steady through the summer. Let me know how it goes. I hope to get up there next summer for a proper dive trip.
