I was wondering if anyone knew of any good dive spots on Oahu, for beg-int. diver. thanks

I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but the Pupukea MLCD (Marine Life Conservation District) is pretty popular. I think the best places to get in are Three Tables, the parking lot before the fire station, or the ever popular Shark's Cove. You will see more fish in the MLCD because no fishing is allowed. If you are looking for a little more depth (like 100 feet), you can dive the trench at Alii Beach Park or Police Beach, both in Haleiwa. All these places are on the North Shore, which is generally calm in the summer. If you are coming at a different time of year, let me know.

but what if your only going to be on Oahu for like a week. It would be nice if the locals with good info of soome spot would like PM them to you. So you atleast would go home with a smile on your face. I can understand your point on keeping them secret but you share alittle for someone that doesn't live there and doesn't have the time to find the good spots. I know I would do so if you asked me for such info if you happened to be in my neck of the woods for a visit!

BladeRunner,

I'll tell you why I haven't responded to every one of your seemingly endless questions...Because you're asking so much that I've gotten annoyed. You sound like an impatient teenager (I'm surprised at your age) that hasn't yet learned to restrain your every inclination a bit. You aren't even taking the time to absorb what we tell you before you post the next series of questions that you could probably figure out the answers to yourself with a little effort. And what good is telling you about all of the dive spots if you probably won't even be able to find your way to them? The best thing to do when travelling to a foreign place is to hook up with a local. All you had to do is ask if anyone living in O'ahu would be willing to hook up with you for some diving when you come here...I'm sure you'd have gathered interest. I'll always make an effort to dive with foreigners that are visiting here if they engage in a friendly correspondence with me.

Please just take it easy on the questions, most of which are going unread anyway because I don't think there are that many O'ahu divers on here. Like I said, a lot of your questions could be answered with a little bit of your own research. How hard is it to Google up some websites on O'ahu dive spots? You already mentioned one of the best ones to me (http://www.shorediving.com/Earth/Hawaii/Oahu/index.htm). Taking it to the level of analyzing aerial photos (http://www8.nos.noaa.gov/biogeo_public/aerial/search.aspx, http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/coasts/data/oahu/pdcimagery.html, http://home.hawaii.rr.com/sailanddive/coastpics.htm), is a bit much if you're only going to be here a week, and it's very hit-or-miss. Better to stick with the known spots if you're only going to be here for a short while.

Your best resource would be the Hawaii Skin Diver forum. Peruse the volumes of posts there that are mostly about diving in O'ahu, and post an inquiry of your own to ask if any divers would be willing to hook up with you. You'd feel right at home because there are plenty of teenagers on there that like to ask too many questions.

Any other questions?

First I just want to say I am sorry that I posted such hot headed message as I did. I didn't step back and look at what I had typed untill it was too late and pretty much had my ass handed to me. The post was really fueled by drive for information which for me the side affect is impatients which I've always been bad about. Kurt I'm sorry that bombarded you with all the questions but you could have told to lay off with all the questions. I really didn't think I was doing that much to annoy you which now I guess I was.

I met my best friend on DB back 2000 and his name was Charlie Wheat. We start diving and spearing together and went all over the east coast diving and trained together. August 10 2002 he died from SWB while training at quarry by himself. After that happened It was really hard to get back in the water and really dive like I use to with my friend. after awhile I started diving less and less and pretty much let my fitness go down the drain.

When the chance to go to hawaii came up for me and my wife. I was really happy because it started a fire in me to get back in shape and start training and diving again. Kurt most my questions were driven by me wanting as much info as I could get because I'm one those people that actually enjoy planning the trip more than I do going sometimes. I was just trying feed that hungry for informations that would keep me motivated to grab my road bike and pound out the miles. The motivation that I once had but have to work at getting back right now. So kurt don't worry I have no plans on annoying anymore and thank you for all the info you've provide me with so far. It has been very helpful and I will follow the advice you have given me so far. THANK YOU!

BR,

Sorry about snapping. I appreciate your sincerity. I'd be happy to dive with you when you get here. With any luck we'll do as well as my dive partner and I did today:
