I checked it out yesterday and the water is on!

That means there's warm water coming out of the pipe and lots of openwater-so no chain saws needed this week!

I'm thinking of going around noon and the water looked crystal clear- so bring your cameras and spearguns.

Anyone else care to join me?

Jon

North side of lake Monona in Madison.

There's a hot water discharge pipe that keeps the ice away, when it's running, and the fish usually gather in close so that there's something to look at.

There are a bunch of old threads on here about diving, and spearing, there.

I wish you were diving on Mondays and Tuesdays once in a while

Anyway, if you are going to dive next week or in a week I'll join

p.s. just checked weather and it's not looking good neither for this weekend nor for next

Jon,

Good luck...perhaps I should change the 3/10 event to be by the outlet. The weather has been so bad lately that I have not been able to check out the Sheboygan Power Plant...I am hoping to this weekend, but we'll see.

If I don't go to Sheboygan, I'll come to the outlet. I'll be there by 1:00 if I go (have some other things going on in the AM). I'll keep you posted.

Gene

Well, 25 - 30 mph ENE wind kills Sheboygan for today. I guess I'll see you guys in Madison. Again, I will be late as I have some things going on this AM. If you are needing to leave before I get there, leave without me...I guess I'll have to clean up all the carp you miss! rofl

Good luck.

Gene

Well, I just got back from the hospital...son sledding...he is OK, but I was 30 seconds from being out the door...sorry I missed you. :vangry Hope it went well.

Gene

Sorry to hear that Gene, but with boys I understand. Mine has a big scar on his forehead right now from the Children's Museum this week- and I know I'll hear about it when I see my mother-in-law tomorrow.

The dive was GREAT! The outlet was on and the fish were there. Lots of big carp and one pretty good sized musky. The water in the pipe was 54F and as you swam away from it, to the edge of the ice, it dropped down to 36F. The water was clear and the sun even popped out for a while. I'll post pictures later on.

A few more shots.

I haven't taken a look at any of the video I shot yet but there may be some good stuff in there as well. There were dozens of large buffalo carp when we got there but they moved out to deeper water everytime we swam up to the pipe to warm up.

Nice pictures Jon!

I see You like the sound of surround system...

Hope we can dive again soon, I am going to Performance in a week but when I come back I will come to the beautifull state of Wisconsin. Love cheese

Today all day at work (knowing that You guys are diving) I was thinking WTF am I doing here?! Oh, yeah, making money so I can dive... preetty crazy isn't it?

Jon,

Son's OK...just a good bonk on the head...CT scan showed is fine...monitoring for 24 hrs.

Great photos. Sorry I wasn't there. I really wanted to go. I actually had everything in the car & was getting my warm water when the phone rang. 30 more seconds & I would have been there...Oh well...I was a 10 year old boy once too.

On lake-link.com, the guys fishing the Sheboygan Power Plant were saying they were seeing a lot of carp...this was mid Feb. So, I think I will still keep the power plant in Sheboygan on for this coming Saturday. I am going to try to make it there during the week if I can....If it doesn't look good, I will change it to Madison.

Gene

Jon -

Nice Pics! What kind of camera do you use? Did you guys end up getting any Carp? I'm hoping to get out there with you guys one of these days. Keep posting Pics.

Scott

My current camera is a Casio Z1000. There were carp to shoot, but I didn't bring my gun in the water because I was more interested in playing around with my new monofin.

Here's a few video stills I pulled off my camera.

Looks great Jon!

Btw, are you diving next Saturday (the 17th) by chance?

I don't know that I can next week as it's my daughter's birthday and we have lots of family coming in for a party.

I was thinking about going out again tomorrow. Weather should be nice and it would be a good time to play around with some monofins if your interested.

Jon

Sounds like there are a couple of people interested in diving tomorrow. Now we just need to decide if we want to meet at 11 or 12- to make sure everyone can get there on time.

The easiest way to find it is to put this address into your favorite mapping program "812 Jenifer St, Madison, WI 53703 "

If that doesn't work just look for the only openwater spot on the north end of Lake Monona. We park across the street from BB Clark beach and enter there. Jenifer street is just two blocks south of Williamson street- which is the main road along there.

I'll bring a couple of monofins along for people to try and there's always spearfishing for those that have Wisconsin fishing licenses.

Let me know who else is interested.

Jon

Hi Jon, I'd be interested in diving the outlet tomorrow, starting time at 11am?
Later,
Brian
