Hi,

being relatively new to freediving, I'm wondering how my cardio shape affects my dive time.
My PB in static for example is 4:11 and my contractions started as early as 1:15 to 1:30. I have to say, that my cardio shape is really bad, done no cardio training for years. I really feel like I have to change this, but what would I have to expect?
Will it only shorten my recovery times between dives, or will it also be possible to delay my contractions?

Thanks in advance for infos, Tobias

tknoll,
Everything will improve with cardio training. It is no silver bullet, but it is very basic to breathhold, endurance, and cold tolerance. So by all means work on the cardio. Just be patient and give it time to work. If you do no other training, the cardio will still be the most valuable thing you can do. ; )

Thanks Howard, I used to do apnea knee bends for quite a while, but I stopped because of lack of motivation. I think I will start with cardio training to raise my general fitness level and maybe stop with dry apnea exercises for a while. The only thing that I'm still thinking of is that my "easy phase" of my dives is soo short. So could this be caused by a bad overall fitness level for example?

Greets,
Tobias

Just make sure to keep it in the aerobic range. Too low and you get no benefit. Too high and you quit burning fat, use up the sugar stores and start building up lactic acid. You may need to experiment to find that middle ground. Once you improve your cardio (typically 3-4 days/week) then you can expand to anarobic training once in a while and get back to the statics.
