Hi!
I was spearfishing in Sythonia (Greece) for a week and found myself twice in difficult situation.
First time a boat paased very fast at no more than 10m of my buoy that has the diver down flag. I was lucky this time, because I was in the stage of surfaceing and not much that I could do to avoid the passing boat.
Second time I was waiting down (10m) and hear a boat that was slowing down. Due to my first expirience, I've looked immidiately up and see the boat that was crossing exactly above me. I surfaced and yale to them and show them the flag; the boat just speeded up and dissapear. I am sure that the boat's driver didn't know what the flag means and he slowed down just to investigate.
So, my expirience tells me that it is more likely to die hit by a boat than drowned.
Except that I try to explain to boatman (whenever I can) what the flag means, I don't know that else I can do. Or is there something else?
