In this case (uneducated captain), your highly visible dive float and flag made you less safe!

It seems that you need either a radioactive symbol on your flag, a land mine symbol, or an 1800's cholera onboard flag to keep ppl away.

:king ha ha ha ha ;) Yeah, what to do?!

Reported the incident to the local police here in Denmark. Long story short; they are not going to do anything about it! >>>LOL<<< So remember boys (fellow divers), it is pure honest Cowboy-land out there on the open ocean for us divers. And let’s not forget, Dear Sailors, this “concept” works both ways! I have experienced far more dangerous situations and next time I know that I can only rely on myself! Not the law of the land… :ban

PS, in some situation like when I am not spear fishing, just diving, I absolutely prefer to go diving without the diving buoy with the diving flag and a long string attached to me that I now and again get entangled into. But the law of the land says I must have a diving flag with me… :duh

Another spearfishing concern is if a boat runs over your float line!

TEY to let go and fire the gun away before it gets out of your hands and is pointed directly towards you!!

yeah there are too many boat owners that dont know what a dive flag is, in some areas where i know there is commercial dive boat traffic i use them as a courtesy to the captains but i dont believe they make u safe ive had to many boats actually approach the float to see what it is, worse on the mainland especially lakes

At least this was only a sail boat...
I'm more worried about motor boats.
Those just speed on with a total disregard for anything that isn't another boat.

Surfers doing high-speed are also a nightmare.
They NEVER look out for divers/swimmers, and are not good at evasive manoevers SHOULD they spot you.

And the worst of the worst...jet-ski.

All of the above were the reasons why I stopped going into lakes and beaches :(
