Seeing as pirate games are making an appearence here I thought I would add some other freediving/spearfishing related games. They are only small easy games but they are something to do when not on DB or out diving.

There is this Harpoon Game

And this slightly better one Pearl Diver. Go to the second row and download "pearl diver".

Anyone else know of other freedive realated games?

Catchya, Lachlan

I finally got a chance to spend a bit of time playing the 'pearl diver' freediving video game (from the above link).

Has anyone managed to finish the game? I always black out on the last level (dead sea level). The closest I came to finishing it was collecting the minimum bounty on the dead sea level, then almost making it to the surface and suffering a shallow water blackout at 6m.

My best score so far is 15,059. My best score on the 1st level is 3178. I figured out how they calculate your score:
1. Total bounty collected (in $$)
2. Plus total dive time in seconds, times 10 (i.e. 2'00" dive = 1200 points)

The longest dive I was able to survive (without BO) was 3'01". The longest dive on the 1st level I managed while collecting all the bounty ($1500) was 2'47". The most bounty I have collected on one level was $2700 on the magnetic point (3rd) level.

Once you get the hang of this game it is very similar to real diving! The same concepts apply; conserve energy. The more you move your character, the more O2 you burn. You must drift and sink as much as possible, and wait for the white shells to come to you, rather than swimming over to them.

My usual strategy is to collect most or all of the bounty (treasures and white sea shells), and then swim back to the descent line. Then, I hang on the bottom as long as possible until my O2 is about to run out. Then I dash for the surface. Because the longer the dive the more points you get!

I really recommend downloading it and trying it. At first I didn't like it at all, I couldn't control the guy and I kept crashing into things and blacking out. But after a little while it is really fun.

Wow interesting observations Eric. I never realised the scoring system or worried about it. I have finished it twice but it is hard to do (for me anyway). Bumping into creatures and getting trapped in weed doesn't help the o2 stocks either. If you manage to BO right at the surface you will still finish the level for some weird reason. Also I swim him down on an angle through the sharks and then back along the bottom to the dive line.

Happy playing, Lachlan

I finally finished the game! 15107 pts. Too bad there isn't a spectacular ending...

hey these two games are really nice
they are simple but fun ti play
my little toddler plays on them for hours and also misses his dinner sometimes
so had to delete them and told him that those games were destroyed

The Pearl Diver game is cool! It teaches some concepts applicable to real diving, such as:

-Look where you're going and avoid bumping into rocks, sharks etc.
-Don't wander around aimlessly for ages and then run out of air.
-Leave enough air for the trip to the surface!

I guess it could be made more realistic by actually holding your breath while playing it. I haven't tried yet...

I just noticed that this was the 12,000th post at the beach bar!!!! Yahoo!!

I almost finished it... got to the last level, and collected enough bounty, but blacked out on the way to the surface!

Just like real life! :D

I finished the game! Score 12384.

This is because the girl on the boat rescues the little man and he is OK. ;)
