The story of the WW2 italian military frogmen is strictly related to the history of freediving and spearfishing.
One of the officers, captain Ferraro, after the war became chief engineer for Cressi, and from the late 40's to the early 50's he designed some of the most succesful and innovative freediving gear ever: the Cressi Rondine fins (the first with a cut on the fingers as a way out for water) and the Cressi Pinocchio mask (the first with nosepocket for equalization, still on sale on DB shop after 50 years!) just to mention the mos famous. After that, commander Ferraro founded Technisub, which is still directed by his son.

Here in gibraltar there are a couple of wrecks of the Italian "human torpedo" on the bottom, there are 12 still missing, so everytime I go diving here I hope to find one :)
