Hi again,

Just wondered if anyone could reccomend a torch for some shortish shallow night dives? Looking for inspriration for my daddies day pressie from the kids and its probably a toss up between a torch and Fat Lad at the Back cycling kit so somewhere around the 60 quid mark. Also a wee treat to myself after major abdominal surgery.

Cheers Matt

You can't go wrong with an XTAR D06 they go for around that price, maybe a little more, get the U2 CREE LED, which is on of the latest. There are a fair amount of us use that. Get the full kit with charger case & battery etc. I also use a BestDivers mitt to stick it for hands free as well. Don't buy from Hong Kong China etc as you will have import duty taxes. There are/were plenty of ebay sellers.

Going for around £56-60 on ebay now or Torchdirect.

Xtar D06 all the way.
Torch direct supplied mine. Did have a fault within the years guarantee but replaced within 3 days. Happy to recommend torch and torch direct. As previous get the full kit with charger etc. I have two spare batteries in case conditions are good or plenty of fish around. Usually replace one after an hour or so, then carry on with the dive. Very rare to use all three but always carry them in the car charged just in case.
If you buy spare batteries buy a good make Panasonic often supply the cells of the battery. Also have two back ups, one similar to xtar supplied by torchy off of eBay, the other is Cree xm-l t6 led dive torch with wrist band. £7.99 on eBay. 1600lm only one setting but good as a very cheap back up or starting out with night dives. £8 approx for the battery. Also be aware batteries can take quite a few hours to charge, you start to doubt they are charging.
Don't get to hung up on the torch, remember they are imported from china but quality seems pretty good. Remember buy from uk seller and get out and enjoy. I have often sat when fish are abundant and watched the magic of silver light up, also watching squid dance in front of you Then BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
